Can you force your phone not to roam?

I was living in Charleston, SC where Alltel provides service. I moved to Orlando and now have been told that I cannot get a local number, thus causing my phone to stay in roaming. While I am on a national plan I am not being charged however the phone stays in a roaming mode causing it to drain the battery. I was just wondering if anyone else knew how to make it not go into a roaming mode?

Also since Alltel cannot provide me with a local number wouldn't that be breaking my contract?

Re: Can you force your phone not to roam?

You should have an option on your phone that offers you Alltel only. It should be in the same place where your roam only options is.

Re: Can you force your phone not to roam?

Might want to make sure your PRL is current. Not sure how Alltell folks do that though. With Verizon it's a call to *228 option 2.

If you get no service at all when set to "Home Only" then you have 0 Alltell towers near you... or at least none that your phone can recognize with the PRL you are running.

Cross your fingers and hope an updated PRL will help. If not, you're probably in a "No service" area for your carrier and will have to roam to use your device.

Re: Can you force your phone not to roam?

Yeah tried *228 and option 2 and still no luck. I've called Alltel and they say they don't have service in this area, but they do having roaming agreements with other carriers. I just wanted to know if there was a way to hack the phone and make it think it wasn't roaming.

Re: Can you force your phone not to roam?

From the sound of it no. If they don't have Alltell towers there, you'll be roaming no matter what.

Re: Can you force your phone not to roam?

It seems to me that it would be software related... Seems like there should be a crack that would make the phone think that it is on a home tower??
