Internet Sharing free?

okay guy this is weird i think and i need to know for sure! okay! so i have a mogul and when i connect my usb cable to my phone and laptop and access internet sharing it actually give my laptap broadband speed and access to the internet but wait i thought you had to have the 39.99 plan to do this! i called sprint tech support i mentioned the situation and the tech said that yes you do have to have the plan for it to work and if it works without having the plan it is free! what i need to know if this is happening to anyone else or just to me because i don't have the data plan just sprint power vision with the 99.99 everything plan!

If you have the Sprint $99.99 everything plan you should have unlimited data.

Re: Internet Sharing free?

Click "Start", then "Programs", then "Internet Sharing".......but it has to be enabled w/ Sprint first.

Re: Internet Sharing free?

older roms, U just open ics.. and hit connect. as it will use sprint pcs.. to dial out....with the new rom... it always uses phone as a modem.. to connect.. so u have to edit the reg.. so it will always use sprint pcs... ive never has pam. with my mogul...and have used 5 to8 gigs a month...depending on useage.. never once had any charges. even with the new 5 gig a month soft cap in place....of course i live in the country so maybe on a handful of people use the towers bandwith.. who knows..lol. but ive had rev a for like almost a year. out here.....

so to answer your question... is it free ya, but to be sure i wouldnt be dl torrents all day or anything like that...

here is the reg edit u need running the new rom...

Get and install PHM Registry Editor.
Then navigate to:
HKLM\Comm\InternetSharing
and delete the string: Extension - isext.dll
Then to:
HKLM\Comm\InternetSharing\Settings\
and change "ForceCellConnection" to "Sprint PCS"
Wait a few minutes, maybe 5 just to be sure. Then soft reset the phone!

cant remember it was from another thread on here.. also i think there is a cab version here also just search...

Re: Internet Sharing free?

Or you get the registry editor and remove the limitation yourself. But in addition look for the way you can use the old phone as modem feature (you will need to install the missing program and icon) and you have more fun.

Re: Internet Sharing free?

The Sprint store told me several times that the "everything" plan doesn't mean "everything." They give me examples such as no free International Calls, no free music downloads and no "free Internet Sharing" without the plan.

Re: Internet Sharing free?

Internet Sharing is not covered under the S.E plan just like either are the Sprint Tv premium channels. Tethering is not free in anyway its P.A.M (Phone as Modem $39.99 a month) on your bill if you pay for it.

If you do the reg edit it will work and you should slide under the radar and not get charged I have never had a issue with sprint over this.

Ya might want to be careful until you get your first bill just to be on the safe side, but again I have used it for over a year with no issues.
I have the S.E plan with no P.A.M. Another thread about it with some info HERE.

Well, I have been using the Modem for quite some time and produced for 8GB on traffic on average per month and there has never been one dime on my bill extra and no questions. Guess, they have no way of tracking the difference.

Re: Internet Sharing free?

Im not telling you to do it,they might catch on,or maybe I was lucky. The fact is however that I have been using my phone as my main internet connection for over two years with no problems. I started out with a samsung phone. On samsung evdo phones you could go into the hidden menu and disable "secondary modem NAI" and it would let you tether with only a normal 15 dollar a month data plan. I then upgraded to a mogul. I first did the trick where you connect to the internet with the browser then launch modem sharing. I then went with the registry hack.I had some issues with reliable connections (I noticed that sometimes connection sharing would hang) and I then switched to PDA net which has worked perfectly. Ive never been charged,or yelled at by sprint or had any problems at all. My usage has to be at least 10 gigs a month.
