gmail set up post 6.1 upgrade

I've tried all the steps via gmail settings page:

To configure IMAP for your Windows Mobile 6 device, just follow these steps:
  1. Enable IMAP in your Gmail settings.
  2. Open the Start menu and select Programs > Messaging > New E-mail Account.
  3. Enter your Gmail address (including '@gmail.com') in the E-mail Address field*. Google Apps users, enter your full address in the format 'username@your_domain.com'*.
    * Windows Mobile 6.1 users: Enter an unintelligible email address (such as 'g@g') at this step. This will bypass the automatic configuration for POP access.
  4. Uncheck the box that asks to get settings automatically from the Internet and select Next.
  5. Select Internet e-mail as your email provider in the drop-down menu.
  6. Enter your name as you want it to appear in sent emails.
  7. Enter a descriptive name for the email account and select Next.
  8. Enter 'imap.gmail.com' in the Incoming Mail Server field.
  9. Select IMAP4 as the Account type from the drop-down menu and select Next.
  10. Enter your full email address (including '@gmail.com' or '@your_domain.com') and password.
  11. Select Next.
  12. Enter 'smtp.gmail.com' in the Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server field.
  13. Make sure that the Outgoing server requires authentication box is checked.
  14. Select the Advanced Server Settings link.
  15. Make sure that the Require SSL box is checked for both incoming and outgoing emails.
  16. Select The Internet as the network connection from the drop-down menu.
  17. Select Done and then Next.
  18. Select how often you want your phone to send/receive emails from the drop-down menu.
  19. For more download options, select the Review all download settings link.
  20. Select Finish.
  21. Check our recommended client settings, and adjust your client's settings as needed.
....but it won't work for me. I keep getting: Messages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device. Make sure you are connected and that your e-mail account settings are correct. Then, try to download messages again.

It works for POP but I need the IMAP4...any suggestions out there? I will be interally grateful.

You have to go to your gmail account online and select settings in the upper right corner, then go to Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab and enable IMAP and /or POP

Re: gmail set up post 6.1 upgrade

When you type in the e-mail address initially, set it up with a bogus e-mail address like a@a then you can set up IMAP. I had to do some searching myself to finally figure it out. After you get past that then following Gmail's directions is a breeze.

Re: gmail set up post 6.1 upgrade

I followed those same instructions a few days ago after I updated to the new Sprint ROM and it seems to be working ok. I set the Message Format to HTML and download Headers Only and Attachments to Do Not Download.

After seeing the headers I can still click on the email to get the whole thing.

Re: gmail set up post 6.1 upgrade

On the touch if you use an application called MidLet Manager, you can use the gmail download and install on your device. I find it easier and you don't have to use wait for the mail to download to the device.

Re: gmail set up post 6.1 upgrade

Install thunderbird on your computer. It's a free email client. Follow google's instructions to set thunderbird up for IMAP access to your gmail. Does it work? If so, good. If not, you've messed something up on the google side of things.

Once you've ruled out an error setting up gmail itself, then do this stuff.

Instead of messing with your existing mail accounts you've tried setting up on your mogul, delete it and start over following the directions from the beginning.

The most critical part is in step 3, you MUST enter something wrong when it asks you for your email address.

Once you've got everything working and tested, you can uninstall thunderbird if you want.

Re: gmail set up post 6.1 upgrade

make sure that you have the latest ROM version, if you don't, head to htc.com and upgrade your rom, then from the IE on your phone go to google and try to download the Gmail application, it works for me.

But if you are trying to add it on the phone make sure you head to your Gmail account look for the seetings under the Forwarding and POP/IMAP Tab in the account settings, and on the phone when you are trying to add the new email, just ignore the first step or enter a wrong email that will force you, in the following step, to enter the provider of the email account and the type of it.

Re: gmail set up post 6.1 upgrade

Well, the only thing I do different for my Gmail accounts is that when I specify the IMAP or SMTP servers I also specify the port. This maybe your problem. Edit the account like this:

Incoming Server: imap.gmail.com:993
Outgoing Server: smtp.gmail.com:587

I just did this and it worked on my Titan running nueROM 2.2 Preview 8.
