Can I IM with my buddy on his Blackberry?

I have a friend with a Blackberry, and he's using whatever came stock with the thing (he hasn't installed GoogleTalk, etc).

What program/protocol do I need to install to be able to IM with him? He says he's using Blackberry Communicator, but I don't know if that's the name of the app or not.

Searching found me nothing definitive, so a discussion or just a link would be great. Thank you...

The Blackberry Communicator is Blackberry specific. He'll need to download third party software.

its blackberry messenger and like rodbac says its bb specific due to the fact that its actually what they calling PIN messaging where each bb has its own individual pin... unfortuantely theres no way to get that on a WM device... they have bb connect for wm but nothign that will let us bbm(blackberry message) its the only reason i hold onto my curve
