Having lots of issues with USB tethering in Vista

Anyone else using this piece of crap operating system that can shine some light here? My phone will tether via USB for only about 15 minutes before Vista drops the network connection even though the phone still says its "Connected".

Its really frustrating to have to use bluetooth or reboot to linux, especially since the towers have been upgraded around here...

Re: Having lots of issues with USB tethering in Vista

I use vista --, however, I usually use PDANet to connect to the Verizon network; I also use Bluetooth PAN for tethering, If I want to go wireless for some reason. No major problems here with either one. It is true that I frequently have to reconnect my PDANet to Verizon *once* in the day - this disconnection usually happens within five minutes into the first connection (However, unlike your situation, PDANet will clearly say that my modem is disconnected) Anyway, after that first drop and subsequent reconnection, my connection is then solid for 7 - 8 hours straight. A weird phenomenon, but I have learned to live with it - I have attributed it to the Verizon network. I see you are on Sprint, so your connection issues may lie with them.

Re: Having lots of issues with USB tethering in Vista

No its not a Sprint issue. As I said, I can tether with linux (using the usb-rndis-lite part of SynCE) and its completely stable. So stable in fact that my speed is over 4 times what I get with a USB tether in Windows...

The problem lies somewhere in Vista or WMDC... I just can't figure out what the issue is.

Re: Having lots of issues with USB tethering in Vista

I've tried them. PDANet and Internet Sharing both drop the call. WModem hasn't worked in ages...

The only consistent connection with Vista is bluetooth... and I just can't deal with 1meg down, 400k up when I know my connection will do 2 down, 600 up in Linux... Its a HUGE difference in the amount of time it takes to load a page!
