push email vs. autoupdate 5min?

I get about 20-30 emails a day. I'm currently on push email, but was wondering if it would be more or less of a battery drain to go back to autoupdate every 5min? or 10min?

i figured it'd possibly be more battery drain to go to 5-10 min because then it's polling every 5-10 min instead of just when a message comes through, but i'm not sure because i'm not really sure how the msft exchange server works. any thoughts?

You use more battery on the polling than push, push only pings the server, instead of full blown logging in. I have around 15-20% MORE BATTERY using Sevin rather than auto polling.. Either way, even with an extended life battery, I still have to recharge by 7pm....

What else are you running? I get or send probably a hundred (or more) emails every day via push mail through my corporate Exchange server. I also poll my personal mail server every five minutes for two accounts. I get or send a hundred (or more) texts per day. I make 30-50 calls per day, typically around a few minutes each, and my stock battery used to last almost a full two days on a single overnight charge.

I also run S2U2, Call Firewall 1.3, and a few other apps throughout the day. Seems like your battery is draining too fast to me... or am I jsut really lucky?

Re: push email vs. autoupdate 5min?

weatherPanel, and spb mobile shell are drainers for sure that i use constantly. weatherpanel just cause the themes i have are graphically awesome to look at. max brightness, and push email. but i still think this drains way to quick, that's why i was wondering as to

push vs. autopoll at 10min?

Nope. And I just got my new extended life battery, a 2100mAh, and it is even better. I don't let a lot of stuff run when I am not using it, but then again I am not completely anal about it either.

As an example, with my new battery, I took it off the charger after about a 5 hour charge yesterday morning. I ran it all day yesterday and all night last night without charging it. Right now it is at 73% remaining...

If I am lucky, it is the firt time for anything. Sweet!

Re: push email vs. autoupdate 5min?

Polling drains the battery much worse, not to mention that with Exchange sync, I get emails on my Mogul before they even show up in my inbox on the work LAN

Re: push email vs. autoupdate 5min?

I get better battery performance with push as well, but the biggest advantage to Exchange server sync vs polling is that I just have to handle each mail once. I can delete it from the Mogul, OWA or Outlook and it goes away every where.

Re: push email vs. autoupdate 5min?

yea. i prefer to deal with it more than once. the cell phone holds the important emails, and the friends and bs ones i just delete and handle later on the computer. that's why i push with mail2web. but i do like the fact that push is better on the batt than polling-just wanted to make sure
