Re: Doube screwed

i have never had that issue with PIM i have used it extensively. look in the settings for PIM there is an option to clear old contacts before syncing the back up in. I knowmine stalled and had to be restarted due to the option of syncing an outlook acct that didnt exist yet. maybe is cleard then got stuck and didnt yet restore the contacts.

Re: Doube screwed

this is a long shot as you probably had not archived the files but run a search on your pc for all .pst files
if you have ever archived your contacts they should be retrievable and will be in a .pst file

Re: Doube screwed

Not to give advice that doesn't help you at the moment, but I don't understand why people don't set up a free mail2web exchange server that keeps your contacts, schedules, etc safe online forever?

I've reflashed my phone 100 times and always just re-sync and it takes 2 minutes to set up...no dealing with backup apps or anything. Yes, there will be a data charge, but most peeps have unlimited anyway.

Anyway, sorry about the rant, but it will make your life 10 times easier in the future.

Agreed!

Contacts backed up at...
mail2web
funambol
dashboard

and a PIM backup file stored *off* the device, and one on the sd card, and in two outlook copies - one corp exchange and one personal one. Oh, I guess they're also stored on my ipod touch as a last resort.

Yeah, I really don't want to enter them all in again

Bottom line, backups are free.... why not have a lot of them?

What happened to empty your phone contacts? Did you flash a new ROM? Why are you looking for a RUU? What is PIM backup doing that you say is "not recognizing it?" More info about what happened may give someone a clue as to what you can do to recover.

Re: Doube screwed

Not trying to beat a dead horse but next time, just export your contacts in Outlook to your desktop before any kind of ROM upgrade. I could careless if I lose every peice of software on my phone but my contacts are like gold to me.

Re: Doube screwed

I believe OP said that the sync with the empty phone contacts deleted the contacts in desktop Outlook. I usually copy the desktop outlook .pst file to a backup folder before syncing with a newly flashed ROM because that has happened to me before too.

If OP flashed a new ROM and that is causing PIM restore to not work, maybe flashing back to the prior ROM will allow a restore from PIM. That is one of the reasons my previous post asked what caused the problem.
