BT Stereo Jabra BT8010

When I first turn on the phone and the headset, the phone sees the headset as a phone headset and works fine but it does not see the headset as a wireless stereo device until I make a call first.

So I have to turn both on, make a call, and as soon as I hang up from that call, the phone recognizes it as a wirless stereo device (the icon on the top status bar appears), and all works well.

Anyway to avoid this step?

It is paired as both a stero headset and hand free device (both are checked in the partnership settings)

Which ROM are you using?no2chem's ROM had this issue on my BT8010.

The 3.16 "Leaked" one. Everything else seems to work great.

I have the same headset and never had any problem with the either automatically connecting

I press the mode change button to put in music mode and then press the button in the middle of the volume control. This sends a pause to the phone and puts it in stereo headset mode. Sorry I can't remember the names of the buttons, don't have the manual with me. I keep it in music mode even when I'm only using the one side. That way I hear all the phone sounds in the headset. When I want to voice dial, I hit the mode button to put it back in phone mode and tap once for voice dialing and I hear the response in the headset.

I'm also using the unofficial 3.16 rom. With the official one, the headset always stayed in music mode for me. I only had to start doing the above since I upgraded.

I love the BT8010, the best BT I've had so far and was cheap when it was on sale for $30 at Frys a couple of weeks ago.
