Why Aren't People Using WM5?

To tell you the truth, I've probably gone through every rom on this website, and non of them suits me better than Sampsons WM5 rom.

Sure 6.1 had Threaded SMS and then 3.16 had GPS in there, I really wish I had those with the other roms, but still,
Wm5 has the SPEEEED. No memory leaks either, I soft reset at about 24mb with HTC home running some other things.

The switching from portrait to landscape is done in about half a second to a second, and I barely need to soft reset, its really stable.

And HTML Email? Hah, Wm5 checks for new emails in a max of about 10 seconds.
Everything is silky smooth, so why don't people use it?

Re: Why Aren't People Using WM5?

I had no problems with WM5. I can do without the HTML email, since I wanted push and don't have an exchange server I'd have to rely on a 3rd party app anyway, like flexmail or profimail. I know that windows live hotmail pushes email to you, but I use gmail and don't feel like having everyone switch email addresses again. I know I could forward my gmail to hotmail, but don't want to double up all of my email and have to delete from multiple accounts.

The biggest reason I don't use it is because WM5 doesn't support SDHC.
I tried a couple of the WM5 roms and the SDHC drivers and couldn't get it to recognize my 6GB or 8GB cards. I would rather have the storage capacity than the small speed improvement.

As far as RAM goes, DCD's 1.7 clean ROM boots with almost 26MB of Free RAM and is very stable.

The memory might be reading less, but WM6 manages the memory much much better when you are running a lot of proggies.

Re: Why Aren't People Using WM5?

1999TL, that is true, however if you have a program that needs 15MB of RAM and Windows is only reporting 12MB to be free, even if its just cached, that program won't run...

There are free exchange syncing services available for those who do want exchange sync capabilities. One such services is mail2web. No cost...is free for general use. You can access your account via OWA or via OMA (device sync). For POP access there is a fee per month which I believe is 5.00ish per month?

That's pretty good considering its wm6,
Most of the time with Wm5 on the mogul, I reset at 31mb now.
