help with tethering always disconnecting

When I connect via USB or via wifi (using the assassin's lament cab), my connection drops frustratingly often, I'd say every 5-10 minutes (my activesync is set for 15 minutes, so I don't think it's that). Then I need to dismiss the message on the screen that my connection has dropped, and manually reinitate the connection. Does anyone have any tips to improve this? Or at least to restore the connection automatically?
