Phone App and TTS question/trouble

Is there any way to make it so that when you press phone , it opens the phone app but with the dialer pad minimized instead of brought up already?

CDMA(Sprint) HTC Hero TTG 1.6 rom

Also, my TTS is not working, never has with any rom i've used. I've tried UN-installing, soft reset, re-downloading and reinstalling but nothing fixes it. All TTS settings are on default and when i press "listen to a preview" it just closes the app and goes back to my homescreen.

The app Call ID ,as well as, the Say My Name app doesn't work nor does Google Translator

I would like this as well, but I don't have any info as I haven't tried to figure it out, I always just grab the last few numbers called and slide it so the dialer goes away.

Another quick way is to just stroke your trackball down once and the dialer drops quickly.
