Post Cricket xv6700 MMS questions, please advise.

Howdy guys,

I've recently upgraded my xv6700 to helmi's WM 6.1, and I've got a few MMS oddities going on.

First of all I have read that most of the xv6700's MMS problems are caused by the PocketIE registry value for default connection settings. Has this been fixed in helmi's 6.1? I have searched and I cannot even seem to find the registry entry.

Second of all, I was wondering if anyone has had any success on Cricket using Arcsoft MMS 5.0.31.7 with cricket instead of the older 3 version. At one point I was able to send messages but not receive them, but since upgrading to 6.1 I can do neither - but I have only tried the older version.

I am wondering if part of my problem is the Verizon provisioning packages and whatnot that get loaded into my rom when I select Verizon as my carrier in the kitchen (it wouldn't let me flash the rom if I pick cricket, I'm guessing because there is no OEM cricket rom for the apache - gives country code error 120).

My internet is working flawlessly now but every time I try to send a message it pops back up nearly immediately saying send failed.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, I have already followed the many configuration guides out there for configuring arcsoft MMS through the program itsself and through the registry to no avail.

Re: Cricket xv6700 MMS questions, please advise.

alright, after digging a little more I DID find the IE registry setting for default connections and I have deleted it and soft reset - still seems to make no difference, sending fails almost immediately.

for MMS to work properly does it absolutely have to have its own connection in my connection settings or can I just piggy back off of my already working internet connection I have set up? The guides I have read aren't exactly clear on this.

Re: Cricket xv6700 MMS questions, please advise.

I'm on Verizon and the version of MMS in the kitchen doesn't work for me. I use the version that was in the Exteded ROM on Verizon's phones. I'm sure it will work for Cricket too. Download this http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/3/17/1819077/Verizon%20XV6700%20MMS.CAB file and use the server settings below.

Navigate to this key in the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\UI and change the key EnableServerEdit from 0 to 1, Then Go To MMS Configuration in Messaging and Select Server, Setup a new Server to these settings

Settup a Modem Connection in My Work Network then navigate to this key in the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\UI and change the key EnableServerEdit from 0 to 1, Then Go To MMS Configuration in Messaging and Edit the server connection to these below.

Server Name: Cricket
Gateway: leave blank
Port Number: 8080
Server address: http://mms.mycricket.com/servlets/mms
Connect Via: My Work Network
Wap: 2.0
Sending Limit: 350K

You will be able to do them with WiFi on and not let any other programs but MMS use the Data Line if you have no Data Plan as I metioned in another Thread. Hope this works

Re: Cricket xv6700 MMS questions, please advise.

Thanks for the reply! I will definitely try that - right now I am cooking a new rom with "generic" carrier selected with the newer version of the Arcsoft, we'll see how that goes first.

Fortunately cricket's basic 50 dollar plan includes unlimited data so I am not worried about data usage at all, but I will definitely try giving it it's own connection next time.

I did have better luck with MMS when my phone had the stock vzw rom so thnx again for that advice, hopefully that will do the trick.

Re: Cricket xv6700 MMS questions, please advise.

Alrighty, using the cab you supplied I was able to properly send an MMS message, however when sending one to myself, I recieve no notification, and when I force it to send/recv it just says "error synchronizing" and wont even attempt to connect to the net to see if there are new messages. Apparently the frustration never ends lol.

Any other advice at this point as to why it wouldn't go out and look for new messages?

Re: Cricket xv6700 MMS questions, please advise.

The MMS account does not need to send/receive. You will get that error every time. I would do a *228 update. Only thing is you'll need a dialer which supports it.

Yeah my dialer should support the programming codes... definitely worth a shot I s'pose. I really don't know what PRL I am using and I should check to make sure its the latest.
Thanks again for the advice!

Re: Cricket xv6700 MMS questions, please advise.

Alrighty! More progress. I'm now as far as I ever got running WM5. I did the OTA programming, and also loaded the most recent PRL from the HoFo cricket PRL thread.

My phone now sees that there is a message to download, however I can't get it to actually download.

The "Downloading Message" notification pops up and immediately disappears. Rarely it will tell me Message Delivery failed, try again later, but mostly it just tries to download over and over and over.

Arrg, I'm getting so close I can taste it... lol.

EDIT: Here's my Receive log. I can't really discern anything from it. Everything looks ok to me. The XXXXXXX's are obviously my phone number.

Re: Cricket xv6700 MMS questions, please advise.

Holy crap. I just downloaded my first MMS ever on my apache. Sent to me by me, lol.

Out of desperation I installed the Titan MMS Fix Cab from this thread:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...cricket&page=6

I honestly have no idea what that cab does, or was intended to do, but it appears to have fixed my problem downloading messages.

One last oddity. For some reason my phone wont show that I have a new MMS unless I soft reset the device... Anyone had that problem before or know of any registry settings etc. that I might need to look at?

I know this thread is pretty much me rambling to myself but at least I'm making progress. heh.

EDIT: Apparently I just wasn't being patient enough when waiting for my MMS's to come in, Cricket isn't exactly known for speedy MMS.

So it appears that I finally have FULLY WORKING MMS! Thanks to everyone at PPCGeeks!
