Dumping, Editing and Re-Creating ROM post?

Ok, I'm drawing a blank here. Wasn't there a sticky that explained how to dump the ROM from a phone, extract the information for editing and recreate the ROM for adding back to the phone?

I thought I saw it here on PPCGeeks, but can't remember now as I can't find it.
