How can I set up my bellsouth.net account on a Verizon phone

So when I first got my Omnia (about 6 months ago), I had to setup my bellsouth.net email account with the incoming server as mail.bellsouth.net, and a verizon outgoing mail server. Without the verizon outgoing server, I could send, but not recieve emails to that account. Long story short, I had to get a new phone (my old one decided to take a dip in the pool). When I went into verizon they advised that they no longer provide that outgoing server. I was told that I was SOL, and should open an account with yahoo, gmail, ect...... Has anyone had this issue? Does anyone have the outgoing server settings? PLEASE HELP

Re: How can I set up my bellsouth.net account on a Verizon phone

You're doing better then me. I have never been able send email with my bellsouth.net account on my VZW TP or on my Apache. When i go into any of the local stores they kinda look at the phone strangely and ask what it is...

Re: How can I set up my bellsouth.net account on a Verizon phone

I had a PPC6800 on BellSouth and could use it for POP3/SMTP email, no problems. Until the changeover to AT&T.
Their setup instructions on the web were WRONG (I told the call center guy that, step by step, which ones were wrong).

We upgraded our phones to TPs two days before the Alltel changeover to VZW. Here's how my TP is set up:
E-mail address: my bellsouth email addy
Your name: my name as I want it to appear in emails
Account display name: what I want the Bellsouth account to appear as in Messaging
Incoming mail server: mail.bellsouth.net (AT&T had this wrong on the web)
Account type: POP3
User name: my bellsouth email addy (the whole thing, including bellsouth.net)
Password: my password
Outgoing (SMTP) mail server: smtp.att.yahoo.com
Outgoing server requires authentification: Checked
Use the same user name....: Checked
Advanced server settings: Both "Require SSL..." boxes UNChecked. Network connection: The Internet (They had these all wrong in their online instructions)
Automatic send/receive: Manually
Download messages: From the past 3 days
Advanced settings: Send/recieve... :Checked. When deleting messages: Keep them on the server
Message format: HTML
Message download limit: 2kb

I just sent two emails to my work address and got them both.
And downloaded headers from my POP3 inbox.

Ed - this thread came up when I did a Google search for Bellsouth Verizon email setup. I have done this search different ways in the past and tried a thousand found suggestions for setting up my email. At one time, I was able to receive mail but not send. THANKS TO YOU I can now do both. I joined this site so I could come back and thank you for solving this mystery back in 2009! THANK YOU! Now if I could just find the 8g SD card that fell out of the phone when I was removing the back to do the factory reset (to get rid of a pesky low memory message) which is why I was having to reset all my email accounts & what brought me here. AGAIN, MANY THANKS!!!
