Cool LG Fathom ArcSoft client removal...

So... i recently purchased an LG Fathom, being originally turned on by the fact it has a snapdragon and 256mb of mem. The phone is a fantastic example of what can be done with WinMo 6.5.3 when OEM's dont muck it up.

However, as usual an OEM has to make a mistake here and there... this phone ships with an ArcSoft client for both SMS and MMS. which for lack of another word, is down right horrid for SMS. No threading, search, spell check, bla bla bla. i am pretty versed in winmo haxing. However im kind of hitting a brick wall trying to figure out how to point the OS to use Tmail instead of the arcsoft nubness... if i figure anything out ill report back...

Re: LG Fathom ArcSoft client removal...

Oh god, please find a way to fix this. I don't understand how a phone company can release a phone without threaded sms when I had threaded sms 3 years ago on my samsung i760.

Holy hell, way to take a step back LG.

1. If you click on tmail in your /Windows folder, does it open or redirect you to the other program.

2. Do you have the ability to dump your rom using dskdump.exe?

Re: LG Fathom ArcSoft client removal...

Are you able to find the original rom by doing the following:

Install Microsoft's Network Monitor** (its free - netmon from now on, im lazy ) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Close all your browser windows, instant messenger, email, anything that uses the network should be stopped while you do this.

Start netmon, and tell it to capture all the traffic on your network card.

Then start the lg-updater program (get it from lg directly), and have it check for updates for your phone.

Go back to network monitor and stop capturing traffic when it's done.

**If you're familiar with wireshark you could use that instead of netmon.

Re: LG Fathom ArcSoft client removal...

Try looking at one of the HTC registry hacks that is used to disable HTC messaging... I'd think this would be the same registry key you'd need -- basically tell Windows to use default SMS.

I'll try this (when I have time), I saw it at xda as well (lol, see my name in the thread?). I have to use my laptop though as netmon wont work on my desktop for some reason.
