How to update Windows Mobile 5.0 to a newer version?

It is running Windows Mobile 5.0. Is there a way I can update it to a newer version, 6.1 or 6.5?

There is no WM6 or higher for that.

actually to give you a more specific answer there are no official upgrades for this phone but there are "custom roms" available, you just happened to wander into the wrong forum as we don't have a section for HP devices.

its a different forum so you'll probably have to register with them as well but they'll definitely get you taken care of

Actually I was including custom roms. Over there has WM6 for newer HPs but none for the HW69xx devices unless I missed it. In fact if you saw one could you link it cause I could use it.

i didn't point to anything specific i just point to xda's forum for the HTC manufactured "sable" which in XDA's own description is also known as the ipaq hw69xx which according to the link the OP posted, is exactly what he has
but no i didn't go through that forum and do all of the leg work, i just pointed to the right direction although yes it could very well be a dead end

use microsoft windows update for it.and find out the new version firstly uninstall the previous one ..install the latest version..

except that windows update that's on the device is just going to search from updates to the existing software from microsoft
in the case of a new rom the update would come from the manufacturer in this case HP but HP never updated that device which is why we were pointing to unofficial channels
