Difference between stock rom and shipped rom not clear

Hey all I see its good practice to go from one rom to another but first to stock but what is the difference with shipped roms?

Oh and edit is it safe to go from 4.7 rom to 4.8 and not going to stock rom if staying with same type publisher?

you should use the shipped rom, not the stock rom. The shipped rom brings your phone back to factory settings, the stock rom will just change the rom but not the radio and its not the official sprint release. regarding flashing back each time, that's personal preference. i would say half or more don't do this and have little or no problems. But if you find that minor things are not working post flash, things others are not reporting like random hard resets after a soft reset, or tf constantly restarting, etc, then it would make sense to flash the shipped rom again.
