Question [REQUEST] Law Enforcement Field Database Application

I am looking for any application (Freeware/Donation/Open Source/Commercial) that has similar features to this.

http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=13719

Edit: Found another application that was similar, but it doesn't run on WM5+ either.
http://www.handango.com/catalog/Prod...roductId=72491

Another source for the first program, but this one has several reviews.
http://www.handango.com/catalog/Prod...oductId=119805

I have looked all over the web for an updated version of this that would run on WM5+, but it seems that the publisher has been pretty inactive for a while and I haven't been able to contact them. I have also looked for other applications with similar features but have only found corporate software apps that are part of large client/server report and citation applications.

If anyone knows of any software that could replace this outdated version or if any devs would be willing to design a new app please post here or pmsg me for further discussion.

I know many that could benefit from such an application and that would be willing to donate to the development of an app or be willing to purchase a copy.

Thanks in advance.

Re: [REQUEST] Law Enforcement Field Database Application

That can't be right.

Police databases are secured with encryption technology and can only be accessed from police computers

This may be for the Police member who wants it on his PC and knows the connection Info, but if you dont have access to the database this is useless

In reality, all it does is give you a way to view the database, not access one. it probably comes empty and is a waste.

Not to mention accessing such data is a violation of privacy policies and a federal crime.

This program is intended for the officer to build their own database from an "on contact" basis. This is for personal use of the officer to keep track of the information in the field and it be stored on the device. This isn't intended to access some pre-existing database.
However, being able to store this information remotely to a mysql database via a mobile vpn would be handy for multiple users.

Re: [REQUEST] Law Enforcement Field Database Application

why not just write a php/mysql webpage on your own to store/secure this, and make it so that you could use one of the mobile browsers to access it from anywhere?

Haven't thought of that, doesn't sound like a bad idea to an extent. But many I know work in areas that have large holes in cellular coverage/data services and using an app would be much faster than having to open a browser and logging in. Would be handy if it was stored locally on the device and have a option to sync to a centralized database if wanted/needed or sync between devices via bluetooth?

Re: [REQUEST] Law Enforcement Field Database Application

Your asking for a very complex app, you migth have to wait a while. Once I am done with my current projects I migth give it a shot... but don't hold me to the fire.

Thats fine, I appreciate the consideration if nothing else.

One of these days I need to get around to learning .Net and get to making some of this stuff on my own, perhaps I could help others too.

All of what I have done has been in Linux or irc clients like mIRC and XChat.

No one within less than 80 miles has MDTs (now that I think of it, there is one that has a system that is run off of laptops and cellular cards with a vpn and they can get dispatch information/gps), but they are the largest city between Memphis and Nashville. We (or anyone else in the county that I know of.) won't even be getting digital radios until 2013 (FCC Deadline). They haven't said if we will be getting MDTs then either, even then we won't be able to check in house records, only do registration/dl checks/ and (possibly) see dispatch information. Each program we use (reporting/records, CAD, agency terminal) are all totally different and are all seperate from each other. I don't think there is a suite that exists that could possibly tie them all together and our reporting software doesn't have the ability to store anything that isn't related to a specific offense. So storing information about family, work, hangouts, associated vehicles, wants/warrants, and character information isn't an option.

Re: [REQUEST] Law Enforcement Field Database Application

One idea you could consider for getting some software developed, if you are unable to find an acceptable solution. Would be to get in contact with whatever school in Tennessee has teh best Computer Science/Software Engineering programming and find out if they have a capstone or senior design project. My university has such a program and people outside of the university are allowed to submit project ideas. Then you could just submit the project and see if you get enough interest generated for people to choose it.
