ANNOUNCE: 3.5 Rom Kitchen V1.2 Pre-Release -- PR2 now.

I am posting a pre-release of a version 1.2 of the rom kitchen.

This kitchen includes the following changes from version 1.1:

1. Fixed smart dialer by swapping out cprog.exe to with cprog.exe
from 3.3 rom kitchen. Also resolves ## dialing issues BUT YOU MUST
load carrier specific OEM's or CABS to support those functions.

2. Removed netcf1 folder from OS

3. Added netcf2 from kitchen OEM's while we believe netcf2 should be
an OPTIONAL oem normally, we were unable to get the live search
contacts option to work without netcf2 being built into the rom. This
problem is being investigated, but to reduce the # of questions and
problems this default rom comes with netcf2 pre-installed. you can
remove it by taking out the OEM\netcf2 directory

4. Patches GAC_* dlls using those found in 3.3 rom to resolve
contacts search from windows live. May fix other issues as well.

5. Provided a CBOW directory that can be used to add a "crossbow" look
and feel to the ROM. To use, after extracting the rom open a dos
prompt cd into the subdirectory CBOW then run the apply.bat script
there. This overwrites some original files from the OS/LOC/OEM
directories of the default kitchen and have been used by many to
give us a more "crossbow" look..
Files Hijacked by sfaure03 off of colonel's 3.3 rom.

6. Removed non-working Modem Link from programs menu. Tried to
correct the link Unsuccessfully. Will be worked on later version.
For now, the link doesnt work, so no need for it to be in the menu.

Thanks to everyones patitience and the volumous posts describing
experiences. It is that information that lead to most of these fixes.

Special Thanks to Verizon Guy who's work pointed me/us in the right
direction to fix the smart-dialler. Hopefully he is still lurking out there
and will note that nobody really meant to be disrespectful of difficult,
were just all a bit over bearing.

For clarity as to source, I am NOT placing this in the root Apache folder.
I consider it a pre-release. The ROM team just formed, hopefully
will use this work to further their work for either a release of version 1.2 or some other release number to be determined by that team. It can be retrieved from my subdirectory off the the Apache directory.

ftp://up.ppcgeeks.com/Apache/Sfaure0...S_r1.2-pre.rar

Note: This is NOT a custom rom. It is a kitchen for others to do additional build work. If you load other software to it, it should first be checked that such software fully functions on other releases of the rom as recieved from the carrier, or at least the 3.3 kitchen release. That being said. Tell us what functionality works doesn't work.

UPDATE: PRE-2 on site now. use that instead. Had a "mistake" on the original that made it ONLY the crossbow look/feel. Sorry about that, the PRE-2 is done correctly. Also fixed the "usb advanced networking" problem reported. New boot screen applied where we get Helmi_c's name correct. Modem link still in arears as well.. Happy flashing..

Shawn.

Nice work shawn... it looks like a great base to start with - fixes just about every major issue except BT PAN/DUN (no one has found the info I asked for in that topic yet )

So just for me, this base would address these open issues

* smart dialer
* ## codes (assuming you install the carrier cabs or an OEM)
* Windows Live Search contacts integration
* Possibly other .NET app problem fixed (was that iGuidance???)
* Remove wmodem.lnk (bad link, easy fix)

and this nice to have:
* crossbow theme on boot

I have a clean OEM way of doing crossbow theme on boot from rom, no batch/patch file needed - so this last one might be more trouble then its worth.

Assuming this is good (I will probably burn and play with it this weeken) it's a nice bit of work!

Where to post issues?

Nice to see this work moving forward like this ... !

I have 1 issue so far might be one of my modifications, but I am unable to disable the advanced network functionality with the 1.2-pre release - has anyone else seen this?

"Failed to disable RNDIS to use Serial"

It worked with verizonguy's kitchen - perhaps that would be a good place to look? I've not done much WM development - looking to ramp up so as to be more useful with my feedback.

interesting! Yep, guess we'll need to capture that fix too from there. Still, good to know it got fixed somewhere!

Couple of comments.

Using this Kitchen/ROM I seem to lose around 10MB of Storage memory. Upon clean flash Im using 25MB of the 47 available. Typiclly I use around 11MB to start. Basically the same OEM package sans netcf.

Lost my calendar. "The file messaging cannot be found". Anyone else? This could be something Ive done. Nevermind this one for me anyway. Im using wm5 menu. Just to be clear, the left softkey button does not map correctly to messaging but messaging works if I directly access the exe.

I very much like the speed and interface improvements.

Thanks
