How good is this phone?

Just thinking out loud here, how good is this phone, really?
To my way of thinking, this thing out of the box was nearly as good as my Omina1 was after 6 months of work on it.
And from what I see on the forums, it doesn't look like people aren't doing much more to the phone than slapping mobile shell 3.x on it and calling it a runner.
I know that's what I have done, and until I find any real faults with it, or I need to something more than the stock platform lets me do, I think it's fine.
How about you?

Re: How good is this phone?

It's a fantastic phone - as it customizable! There are fantastic roms out there, useful apps and less useful funny apps - a dream.
Out of the box it is rather boring, though.

Re: How good is this phone?

I like the O2 quite a lot.The i910 served me well for over a year but after phone issues VZW upgraded me to the i920.
The screen is the main feature to me. The samsung OS bites IMHO so flash to a newer rom .
My contract ends in Sept.If I had to renew now I would wait to this Fall or pay a little extra and do a one year contract.
This is a tough time with all the great phones coming....

Re: How good is this phone?

I agree 100%. I've gone from the 6600, to the 6700, to the 6800 and each device there were numerous things I wish it had or it took me hours and hours and hours of customizing to get it to work the way I wanted too.

I received the Omnia II on Tuesday, and after about 6 hours of playing around on it, the hardest thing was reconfiguring Mobile Shell to integrate with the new apps and customizing the taskbar. If it hadn't been so long since I customized a phone, I could've probably done all that in 3 hours.

Very satisfied so far (with the exception of the poorly performing shell from Samsung). I really wanted to believe in the widgets!

Re: How good is this phone?

I thought I would give the widget thing another try, but after a couple days, it was back to mobileshell for me. I have been very impressed with the phone, and can see hanging on till the win7 phones have a chance to mature for a year or so.

Re: How good is this phone?

This Phone to me is the Luxury SUV of phones, they packed so many apps and features in that most people won't even touch them all. Lord knows I don't even understand how to use some. (connected home, streaming player :P )
Touch Wiz is horrible and drags the speed down I run just the Titanium homescreen with the customizer.
I keep thinking of trying ROMs to remove the vzw software but really it has everything I need and want.

Sorry I'm rambling this phone is awesome, I love it.
It would be a tough choice this fall if I would rebuy it all over again there are a lot of things coming that have piqued my interest

Re: How good is this phone?

I have to concur, damn good phone, and personally I like Touch Wiz and the widgets, as I use them alot. To make this thing perfect in my eyes I would need a flip out keyboard and not he soft keyboard. Been months and I still have trouble with it.
