Windows Phone 7 for HD2 (WP7 software update)

Good morning ladies and gentalmen, Thanks to Dark Forces Team and Cotulla this is now a reallity! I have flashed it and am running it now. Its very smooth you need MAGLDR 1.12 and the WP7 ROM. I can not post the links here as the official release has not yet been dropped by Cotulla (yet). More than likely it will be released this Friday over at xda-devs. However if you would like more info hit me up on twitter as I have posted many links and info there. I wanted to share this great info with the HD2 community at PPCGEEKS, enjoy! and happy flashing, oh and it runs smooth, very smooth, Im loving it.:headbang:

Or you could just go to XDA and find that others have already posted the links there as well as mirrors. Last I checked there were atleast 3 or 4 threads about the same thing.

mods have taken down the links and even with Chrome and I can't get my registration thru to download the attachment, so I'm still looking for it...

edit: nevermind i found it.

I have to say the sound on the hd2 is amazing with wp7...
as for everything else its okay the screen sensitivity sucks here though but otherwise save from the microsd card this is a great wp7 device...
and with free htc dll access =)
hacking a bound!!!

Re: Windows Phone 7 for HD2 is here!

yeah this is pretty incredible. from turning the phone on it goes thru HSPL3, MAGLDR, bootscreen, bootanim, and my homescreen is ready to use in about 35 seconds. The thing is fast, fluid, smooth, and fully functional (still working on the Live Services part, I need a vista machine to use the unlocker so I'll have to get full access tomorrow)

and to think I can also boot Android if I want to from the same phone, this thing is just the sickest phone ever.

Cotulla is actively working on the MeeGo port too

Windows Phone 7 on HD2 w/100% live services

ALSO I WANTED TO ANOUNCE THIS HERE!

I just called here in the US. the # I dialed was 1(800) 642 - 7676 The 2 men I spoke to where dismissive, they immediately told me to call my carrier Tmobile or The device manufacturer HTC. I explained this is an MSphone problem. I asked him what help would they be? Im not having a hardware or service problem, im having a Microsoft Live account/services problem. They both explained that MS does not have Windows Phone 7 support yet, and again just repeated you need to contact your bla bla bla. Maybe ill call tonight and get someone whose willing to help.

LINK TO MS LIVE SERVICE SUPPORT PAGE

EDIT: Persistence my friends persistence. Be polite, know what your taking about and you will get your Product license activation code. Running 100% on my HD2 =D>

simply amazing....!!!! Got it up and running fully on my HD2 (my activation code will be stashed at my safe for future use)

I have used it for 1.5 days as my daily driver and let me tell ya... as a former HD7 owner (miss it...) it behaves 100% identically to native WP7 devices when it comes to smoothness, and battery life

Only issues i would like to be addressed before its perfect

-back speaker sound is pretty bad... lower volume makes it tolerable
-multitouch issues... its buggy and irresponsive sometimes

... thats it

speed (lag) as well. The hd7 was laggy in some areas, but the hd2 out lags hd7
also the hd2 has dual touch but multitouch, yeah not gonna happen...but otherwise it is a good (almost beta)
despite surprisingly the dvp with all of its problems is very smooth and a great exp

I really don't see the lags you guys are talking about..i've been running it on 2 phones since the 12th and neither one has had any bit of lag yet.

the performance is a bit slower than an actual wp7

its way past beta. its good enough for daily use... as i said, besides the speaker and "dual touch" issues, IMO its a amlost perfect port

Both of my pcs at home are XP(SP3) so I would like to know if you tried it on XP? And if so what did you do. I have tried every hack out there and that I can think of, and Chevron Unlocker still gives my the "Uh Oh" error. Im still hopeful as I have seen some XP users (just about 3 lol) where able to successfully unlock with Chevron on XP.

Chevron did not work on XP for me, because you cannot install the WP7 Developer tools on an XP machine. I couldn't do it till I got on Vista

You can install WP7 dev tools on XP, I did it myself emulator and everything works it just takes some registry hacks, The issue I found is Chevron since it was created on and for Windows 7 its not a compatible WIN32 application on XP, and its not worth the level of work needed to reverse engineer it and to make it work. I discovered this about 3 weeks ago and just upgraded to the student discount version of Windows 7. I love it no issues and everything on the HD2/chevron unlocker side, as well as everything else(DFT ROM/XAP/Apps Live services etc) worked like a charm. I figured I could hack it all on XP but in the end it was not worth the work and Im happy I upgraded.

If anyone is intrested on WP7 dev tools on XP try or search or send me a PM. But you will only get about 75% development value out of it. If you truly want WP7 on your HD2 and are serious about developing for WP7 you need to just upgrade as Orange Kid suggested, you can try VISTA< :( > or Windows 7< ;) > as I did. The work need and hacks are just too many and don't give you 100% functionality. Basicly its not worth the work.

Now im reading up on the Kitchen being created over at XDA, and Tools in order to make custom ROMS.

I love my HD2, I dual boot WP7 and Android from MAGLDR 1.12. If you have not heard Cotulla released MAGLDR 1.13 and is working on a WM6.5 SD version capability. Soon we'll be triple booting with some partions and such. I alerted NGRZ28 of this via twitter as hes my fav Windows Mobile 6.5.X ROM builder.

The HD2 is by far my favorite mobile device ever. Usually I like to upgrade phones every 6months to a year, but not with my HD2 its trully outliving itself with all the great work by cotulla, Dark Forces Team (DFT) and others.

Update for WP7 through Zune is now in effect

Well everyone the WP7 update is here, seems Sprint will be releasing the HTC WP7 Pro 7 this Thursday and will potentially bring more people interested in WP7 to ppcgeeks. Especially since Sprint is the first U.S.(CDMA) carrier to release a WP7 device, and add along the very strong love here for its predecessor the HTC Touch Pro 2. I believe we will start seeing more trafic for WP7 here soon.

But regarding our HD2 I attempted to update via Zune and got as far as message " We couldent back up phone because your phone registry settings are incorrect".

I may be totally off but its worth a try(maybe tonight) if I simply remove SD, and reset phone, the original WP7 partion will now be on my device and not my SD card. Besides that I don't believe the DarForcesTeam Rom (other than some hardware reg tweaks) is that different from stock ROM. Maybe it can be bypassed, or maybe someone with a WP7 device will provide a registry update file to mirror an actual WP7 device for upgrading purposes.

In any case I would not worry about it for too long from a user prespective as im sure an updated ROM will be provided shortly.

Sorry folks just thiniking from a nerds perspective on possible bypassing options w/out flash just for the fun of it. In any case I hope this will bring more people interested in WP7 to ppcgeeks.

well this update only updates some system files to be able to update when it actually comes out, so it wouldn't benefit us anyways, since the NoDo and Mango updates will probably just be cooked into ROMs.

lol same here, but you honestly would see no noticeable difference and apparently it messed up some people's devices so bad they had to go a store to repair, epic fail for MS
