Mobile Internet SpeedTest Site

Hey Guys, I put a new beta feature on http://Blue-Mobile.com, It is a Mobile Internet Speedtest, It is pretty accurate. Tell me what you think

http://blue-mobile.com/speedtest.php

My Results : 419.4 kbs
My Phone : PPC-6700 Sprint
My Carrier : Sprint

EtherealRemnant 10-06-2007 11:02 PM

Its buggy.

2092.7kbps when it was only downloading chunks of about 35KB/sec

That was on PIE on my 6700 running the original AKU 2.0

KMyers 10-06-2007 11:08 PM

Were you on Wifi or EVDO?

EtherealRemnant 10-06-2007 11:09 PM

EVDO. My own computer didn't even get 2000kbps (it got 1800) and I'm on a 16Mbps connection...

EtherealRemnant 10-06-2007 11:09 PM

I'll try it again... one sec

It worked right that time. 699.1, which is about what I usually get here at home.

KMyers 10-06-2007 11:14 PM

I just changed a var, It seems to have gotten a bit better

KMyers 10-06-2007 11:16 PM

Latest Results

My Results : 381.3 kbs
My Phone : PPC-6700 Sprint
My Carrier : Sprint

EtherealRemnant 10-06-2007 11:18 PM

762.6 now. And yeah, I was going to mention that 500KB was too small of a test. 1MB is much better for accuracy :)

KMyers 10-06-2007 11:23 PM

Actually the test file is 2.69 mb, I could not find a dummy 1mb file on my work PC

EtherealRemnant 10-06-2007 11:24 PM

Hmm... well it definitely didn't download 2.69MB of data... it stopped right around a meg. o.O

KMyers 10-06-2007 11:27 PM

Its actually the .zip of MSPowerPoint Viewer, But dont tell anyone :) . I am looking for a better file

EtherealRemnant 10-06-2007 11:47 PM

Can't you just make your own?

http://www.mynikko.com/dummy/

KMyers 10-06-2007 11:53 PM

Cool, Will Try that

EtherealRemnant 10-06-2007 11:55 PM

Make sure you make it 1MB, not in bytes or kilobytes, and you choose random.

KMyers 10-06-2007 11:56 PM

Uploaded, See if it works better for you

EtherealRemnant 10-06-2007 11:58 PM

762.6 :)

And it downloaded exactly 1MB of data.

KMyers 10-07-2007 12:55 AM

781.9 here 1 MB

EtherealRemnant 10-07-2007 01:06 AM

1MB should be perfect for devices like ours. Now once Rev A has fully launched, that may need to be increased to a range of about 3MB to continue to be accurate, provided that our phones would even be capable of USING >2.4Mbps, which I doubt.

KMyers 10-07-2007 01:38 AM

I would not go 3, PPC Devices are not known foe large amounts of memory

EtherealRemnant 10-07-2007 01:44 AM

Nah, I do testmy.net's 2996 test all the time on my 6700 via Opera. It doesn't cause any issues. Keep in mind, its only there temporarily.

KMyers 10-07-2007 04:03 AM

Good Point, I was never a fan of testmy.net,It's results were a bit bloated for me, I like toast.net or speedtest.net

Also location factors onto these tests, My server is physically located in 2 locations (Load Balanced). Whe accessing blue-mobile.com, you will either hit a server in California or Utah. So if you are near these locations, you will get slightly better results. I am physically in Florida, So I am quite far

645.3 on EVDO in my dark and dank basement (but still better than a prison cell!). Thanks again KM for keeping this updated.

KMyers 10-07-2007 02:30 PM

I just tested @ 1,389.1 kbps but it seems to fluctuate drastically when I re-test. Shortly after, I used a 1MB test from broadbandreports and I got a result of 606kbps. Even re-testing on broadbandreports, my results are fluctuating. These tests have been run at home where I have EVDO at 4 bars. My speed test results within the last 48 hours have been terrible. JackSchitt mentioned something about Sprint updating their account database and it's slowing down the internet connection for whatever reason.

I have heard the same myself, My speed tests have been consistant lately

wheelsun 10-09-2007 03:04 AM

1573.8 kbps on Opera Mini
but only about 500-900 using PIE? whats the deal lol

KMyers 10-09-2007 03:26 AM

Opera uses a "Prefetch" system to start downloading some of the links on the page before you click on it, From a webmaster standpoint, it sucks, but it makes surfing *appear faster*, You will notice how the Opera cache fills up very quick compared to PIE

PIE is best for this test

NewYorkChic 10-09-2007 07:35 AM

it didnt work for me...but i will keep trying

timothydonohue 10-09-2007 03:03 PM

672kbs on evdo. tried it with wifi and it barfed for number calculation, but the page loaded lickity split. maybe i'll try again later

[sammich] 10-09-2007 03:12 PM

=] And I only pay 40 bucks a month for internet
Your Current Speed is : 14488.1 kbps

wILLk0r3 818 10-10-2007 01:17 AM

My results from broadbandreports have STILL been really crappy at home, when I always used to get over 1000kbps. I'm getting average 1100kbps using bluemobile speed test and immediately after when using broadbandreports, it's usually ALWAYS around half of what I get on bluemobile speed test. I'm still patiently hoping it's just a temporary problem as mentioned earlier cuz my results were never that low on broadbandreports! LOL

KMyers 10-28-2007 03:25 PM

Hey Guys, Long time no see, I pushed a major update to the Speed test. Any person who is Logged into Blue Mobile (Free registration) will be able to track their own personal speed results (including Average) in the MyAccount Page, You must be logged in while taking the test for it to show there. It will keep a log of your past 500 tests for you to see.
Also on the Speed Test Results (Both Members and Non Members) will see the All Time Averages for all tests listed.

Enjoy

The test should be accurate if your device has more then 1 mb of free memory
