Re: JCerna Your Bill Whiz
looks cool. just an fyi though, gratuity is 20% (dinning). also, how fast/easy will it be to input all the info? because if it takes too long some people can just figure it out in their head... but still, good idea.
|
Re: JCerna Your Bill Whiz
Don't worry I am making it so that you can quickly change tax and tips % and make them Default. I am still debating what input method to use... you will see once I post. I am hoping to have it up by Sunday night.
Thanks JCerna Quote:

Re: JCerna Your Bill Whiz
Thanks this app is really cool I just had dinner with 3 friends and I was able to say how much each of us had to pay. I did not do a even split but instead I added my stuff using the calculator then did tips and tax. I also did the same for friends. You did not list this as a feature? The only complain I have is the icons on the bottom it's confusing.:thumbleft:
|
Re: JCerna Your Bill Whiz
Thanks for the the feedback, yes you can do it the way you did it but I want to make it easier. Yes I am sorry about the menu icons at the bottom, I wil try to have something better next round.

Re: JCerna Your Bill Whiz
Your app works better in 6.5, I just installed for a friend and the scroll bars are not so great. I guess is that in 6.5 you can scroll from the center and he has to use the side bar to scroll. The weird think is that he did not mind, I guess becuase he does not use a 6.5 phone. Anyways thanks
|
Re: JCerna Your Bill Whiz
Yeah it was hard for me to decide if I should keep the number scroll lists or just go with a key numpad. So rigth now I am working so you can set your preference in options. Also I don't know if I should have the numpad avalible everywhere. For example I only have it avalible in the Tax Tips windows but in the home screen to change number of people it's only a scroll list. Also in options I made a list and no number pad. I love the scroll list in 6.5 but not so much in 6.1...:-({|=

Re: JCerna Your Bill Whiz
I installed this program in a T-Mobile Pro2 and it look good. When I open the keyboard it does not but you said that. Also using arrow keys to move between links (im not sure what to call them) they are not in order it jumps all around.

Re: JCerna Your Bill Whiz
Thanks for the confirmation on the Pro2 I will wait to see if any others try it before confirming. Do you know if the phone was stock or did it have a custom ROM?

Re: JCerna Your Bill Whiz Need Beta Testers
In the Tax Tip screen is there a way you can make it so that if you click on anything in accident you can just click off the scroll bars?
|
Re: JCerna Your Bill Whiz Need Beta Testers
Thanks for the suggestion I will work on that in feature release.

Re: JCerna Your Bill Whiz Need Beta Testers
for most people gratuity is a standard percentage, i dont think it is necessary to have it at .01% unless your using the same coding for all the numbers, and you cant directly click on decimals when you want to change a number you have to click the number first then the decimal.
also maybe if you wanna add a currency converter too... in the future |
Re: JCerna Your Bill Whiz Need Beta Testers
Thank you for your opinion on this and I think that you migth be right. I was trying to use one code set for all number inputs but I can see me changing this. On a similar note I have the app present both tax and gratuity as ##.###% becuase I want this app to also tell you what percentage your paying if you enter a $ amount in taxes or gratuity. I have been considering the currency converter and will most likely add one in the future.

Re: JCerna Your Bill Whiz Need Beta Testers
On the Omnia i910 this app seems to work well. Taking into account the beta status and your list of already knows issues + goals, what you have so far seems to work as advertized, doesn't have resolution issues, and seems moderately stable (I have crashed a couple times, but I can't pin it to the app alone (can't reproduce exactly)).
It may just be me, or maybe when the menu screen is tweaked it will be clearer, but for an app that is primarily based on figuring tips + bill splits, I would think it would be easier to open on the 'bill screen' first, and allow you to navigate to the calculator from there. (I can't remember what screen it started with because in looking again I may have uncovered a bug, I am stuck on the 'even/split' screen whenever I open the app.) I also noticed you can'r enter more than $100 and change on the bill screen, and I know it may look cooler to have a scrolling choice area like it has, but maybe each digit could be altered allowing you to chose the hundreds place, the tens and the ones individually...either by scrolling menu like you have, a rolling one like another 'fruity' phone ;-) or have a numeric keypad pop-up. I know you can enter it into the calculator, but it just seems to me that by the time you get to the splitting stage you usually have the bill already and don't need to add it together to figute the tip or split. Just my opinion, I may be in the minority, but overall....so far it is looking pretty good JCerna!! |
Re: JCerna Your Bill Whiz Need Beta Testers
Thanks for the feedback; I'm glad that the app looks like it should in the Omnia. It's really hard to write an app that will work with all screen resolutions/sizes. Anyways... That is weird that the screen opens up to the split/even screen. The app should open to a blank screen and from there you should be able to either go to the calculator or the bill, I will check into that.
Also there is numeric keypad but it only shows in the Bill tip/tax screen. When you click on a number to change and the scrolling numbers bars come up you can press in the soft keyboard icon to make it show. The number pad does need a makeover but that’s later. Quote:

Re: JCerna Your Bill Whiz Need Beta Testers
OK....I see what you mean about hitting the keypad image and having the numeric pad pop-up....very nice, just what I was thinking shoulf be there!
I have noticed this time that the app opened on the bill tally screen, so It seems to get stuck on a certain screen for a while.....could be more my device than the app I guess. It also gets more goofy the more I use it, the bill screen tends to get 'blocks' missing from it, showing the Today screen through at some points, or the numeric menu getting stuck in the 'on' position. I will look at the memory usage and see if it is doing something there. I will try to post a screenshot or two later after I get home to show you what I am trying to get at with the screen getting flukey on me! |
Re: 11/2/2009 Your Bill Whiz Need Beta Testers Update
I just updated to v0.21 and I got to say much better, but I don't like that the new number lists. I set mine up to the number key pad. Over all this app is great can wait for more.

Re: 11/2/2009 Your Bill Whiz Need Beta Testers Update
OK I have been I been playin with the app and I think I found a bug. When you change the percentage (not the default). And you quit the app you get an error and the app will not start. Reinstalling the app works, just thougth I would let you know. PM me when you got a new one up. (I think this migth be a "major bug"):)

Re: 11/3/2009 Your Bill Whiz Need Beta Testers Update
Maybe this was intended, but I'd like to report this anyway:
In calculator mode, percent function does not work the same way as in Windows or HTC calculators: try 100+10%=. You should get 110, instead you will get 100.1 |
Re: 11/3/2009 Your Bill Whiz Need Beta Testers Update
I see what you mean that is a bug, thanks I will post a fix in next version.:)

Re: 11/5/2009 Your Bill Whiz Need Beta Testers Update
v.27 feels like your best version so far. I wil be using it this weekend on a two dinners. Now if only I could split individually... just joking I know your working on that. Just a small suggestion can you make it so I can swipe back and fort from the summary page and Bill page? I do like the pop-up menu but It will be fater to swipe your finger.
|
Re: 11/5/2009 Your Bill Whiz Need Beta Testers Update
This version does seem a lot smoother. The menu choices are better, more choices for the input (I really like being able to chose number scrolling or keypad in the settings) and I haven't noticed any obvious bugs or graphic glitches like from the earlier versions. The only suggestion I would make is a different openning screen...I'll mock something up later to show you what I mean (when I am home and have a graphics program to use).
Good work! |
Re: 11/5/2009 Your Bill Whiz Need Beta Testers Update
OK...I had a spare moment at work, so here goes:
This would be really cool for an opening screen, but I don't know if it would be all that easy to make it look good on all resolutions:http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/c...69/jcerna2.png This is pretty basic, but I think a screen like this (maybe some tweaking to it) would really add some gloss and add to the 'finger-friendly' effect as well:http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/c...69/JCerna1.png |
Re: 11/5/2009 Your Bill Whiz Need Beta Testers Update
Thanks for the mock up I like the first screen, the only problem is making this screen look consistent in all devices. Also I need to create logos and icons to go with this app so that I won’t have copyright problems in the future. I do want to make this app available in the Microsoft app store when I’m done. As soon as I finish writing the individual split part of this app I will start touching up it’s looks. I hope to have something by the end of this week.

Re: 11/5/2009 Your Bill Whiz Need Beta Testers Update
I'm a .net developer but I haven't worked on mobile devices. Could you make a couple different start screens that you could display one or another depending on the screen size? That should help your issue with making it look the same across different devices. (I run a Vogue with sprint for your records of what people are using... it looks great on the device btw)
I just downloaded and I look forward to trying it out today. When splitting is selected you could ask for the number of people in party and then after that selection, pop up the calculator where you have the person add in the prices for his/hers items and when you're done you click "go to next person" and add that persons stuff. Make sure to have first/last previous/next buttons on the bottom (you know |< < > >| style) so you can go from one person to the next. I'm not a huge fan of the current menu system, but if you work in a start screen like what was posted, you could have stuff launched from that page and then have back to menu buttons. For bugs: I experienced an issue when I set input to numpad when I clicked on the numpad button to make the keyboard go away, it would open my regular keyboard instead. I'm running Vin's rom on my vogue (http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=50712) but I'm not on the very latest version of it so it may be a bug of the on screen keyboard. I'll let you know once I update it. Sorry for being wordy, hope this helps! |

With the device I have when the keyboard is up I don't have that much room to see the rest of the app. I find myself closing the keyboard a ton to actually see what's going on the page, and then many times I'll click on it again and finish input. Does that make sense? |
