Octro Vs Palringo

looking for feedback from people that have used both on which they prefer and why...

how much memory do they use, ease of use, etc....

MrBogard 09-15-2007 07:32 PM

Out of the two I definitly prefer Palringo, but I wish there were a better option. IM+ seems nice, but is pretty expensive for an IM client (especially considering I only really need AIM support) and imo AIM 2.0 sorta sucks. There was a great freeware AIM client on PalmOS called Toccer, I wish something simular existed for WM. My biggest comlaint with both platforms is that they won't sort AIM contacts by their groups.

I wonder if Trillian will release their client for free? The good IM tools all seem to come at a pretty high cost, considering they're typically free programs on other platforms.

I love Palringo, just wish there were more options for AIM, MSN, etc.... Like I wish I could minimize offline contacts.

Remember Palringo is in beta, so make sure to give them your ideas.

I prefer Palringo as well.

+1 for Octro

I don't use/need the voice IM thing for palringo and I find their interface a little clunky/cluttered, whereas Octro is much more simple imo.

Octro is good if you need a straight up IM client for: AIM, Gtalk, MSN. It does files transfers, photo support and VOIP.

Your comparing apples and oranges, Palringo is a PTT program with a very first stage IM program while Octro is a robust IM program.

MrBogard 09-17-2007 09:58 PM

I don't use the PTT feature in Palringo and I still prefer it.. for me, the interface is just better.

I agree, and i didn't find Octro that "robust". I like the slimmed down features of Palringo, easty to use interface, no clutter, easy options.

Basically, test both (since they are both still free) and find what suits you best!

thanx for the feedback...

I have messed around with both, I found palringo much easier to setup and use.
octro added several contacts that it needed for server connections I guess to my buddy lists which I found annoying... as of right now I am still using palringo, the PTT feature is nice, but not somthing I plan on using a lot, and I don't need file transfer from octro on my 6700.

GirlGoneGeek 09-18-2007 10:45 PM

imho

I love palringo!!! it is easy

Rdennis2007 09-19-2007 12:35 PM

I like Palringo

coreyoli 09-25-2007 02:45 PM

Palringo is nice, but needs smiley support, lol.. ;)

junkzm3 09-25-2007 07:09 PM

Palringo's functionality is better to me (octro crashes and fails to log-in every once in a while,) but the away message functionality is limited. There isn't a way to hide offline on Palringo either (at least not a way I know of).

For now i'll use OctroTalk.

coreyoli 09-26-2007 07:45 AM

Well, I've been using both, Octro seems to freeze my 6700 every now and then, very annoying.. Sure Octro has more IM featuers than Palringo.. But Palringo seems to be much more reliable, it connects everytime and it doesn't cause lockups, etc... I couldn't use Octra at all last night, would not connect, and when it did it kept telling me my password was wrong, this morning, working fine.. go figure...

Anyway, I'm going to be sticking with Palringo simply for the lockup issue, but to be honest, I like the IM features of Octro better :(...

coreyoli 09-27-2007 03:13 PM

Yup, making the permanent switch to Palringo... I've had to reboot my phone about half a dozen times today, and all I've had on it is Octro... Octro is a great IM client, and I think has more features, etc... But if Palringo doesn't lock my phone as often, I'm gonna have to go with it :(...

mdcnman6 09-27-2007 06:19 PM

i have to go with palringo myself...smily faces would be nice though
