is there a sms twitter app?

Hello guys,

I was wondering if there is a sms type of twitter app, kinda like the iphone/BB have? The idea would be that it would use sms to trigger an update then launch the app to get new tweets and close the internet connection. I have used Twinkini and Pocket Twit and they work ok, just that they only have an automatic feed update that u can use per minute (every 5,15, 30, etc) and since i get lousy battery life on my TP i was looking for something that i can get updates when i need to. Sometimes i get updates real frequently (20 within 2-5 minutes, gotta love family) or sometimes i barely get any at all. Any ideas/help is greatly appreciated.

In pocketwit, put zero in the auto update box and manually hit "refresh friends" when you want to check it. I'm not entirely sure what you're asking for, but i hope that helps.

Yea i have been doing that and it works but what i was trying to see if a service had pretty much the same thing except the user wouldnt need to continuely hit refresh to get new updates (especially since you wouldnt always knew when u had updates). Some kind of app that would use sms to trigger to let the app know u have updates and to download them....thanks for the info though

Maybe I'm not understanding what you're asking for... you can setup your Twitter account to automatically send SMS notifications or not and once you've done that, you can post to Twitter via SMS all you want. No app needed.

Yeah, just set up your account to receive SMS updates from your family members. That's the easiest.

Yeah, that's what I would say to do too.

But I think what he is saying is that he wants twitter to send him a sms that will trigger his updates only when he gets an update.
So he doesn't have to do anything.
Am I right OP?

If so, then I don't really know of a program that can do that,
as it would need some kind of co-operation with twitter so you don't get the sms notifications.
You could probably write something(with mortscript possibly) to scan your SMSes and see if twitter sent you a update, and then if that happens, it will update your twitter application.
but then there's still the fact that you might still get the sms notification on your screen. I'm not quite sure how this one app does it,
but maybe I'll talk to the developer and see if he has any helpful info on how he wrote his scripts to scan for specific texts and react to them depending on what's in the texts, (as I believe his SMSes were not class0 so the SMS would normally show on your phone, but in his program they are hidden some other way.)
I can't guarantee I'll get it done anytime soon, but hey, better late than never.

If you don't hear back from me in like 4-5 days about this, I more than likely got caught up with something else, and haven't had time to look into this for you.
I too would like something like what I described, as I don't want to deal with SMS notifications, I just want the app to download the updates and possibly have a option to pop up with them...
But yea, if you don't hear from me, message me as I probably will not notice this thread. For about a month up to today, I haven't really looked at random threads on PPCgeeks except for 4 different threads that I had bookmarked already.
And since school started up again today, I won't really have time to scour the twenty different forums I'm part of anymore.

I've used some of those GPS tracking programs, and they're able to intercept texts with your special passcode. They then text back the gps location without the phone showing a thing.

It seems possible you could have it grab any texts from twitter and instead of showing the text, open the program and show the text in your feed.

I am in no way capable of doing something like this, but it should be possible.

Thanks Cody! That was exactly what i was talking about. I currently do use the sms feature of twitter but am receiving a lot of messages. Its not really a bad thing just and idea that i thought of. Im not a programmer by any means and was thinking you guys here know of something....thanks all for your input
