Re: Update!!BING Mobile now available!!

is this just a "rebranded" live search? I actually use the new Bing. I like the daily pictures, the maps with 'bird's eye view' and ironically, the search results. I liked Yahoo! because of the news on the main page and google because of their maps. If Bing were to update the visual appearance of their maps and maybe added a weather and/or local news feed, it would rock.

Same applies to the app for WM. I prefer google maps over liveseach and garmin, and wish Bing would come out with a true Bing app and not just a live search "rebrand", if that's what this is...

Re: Update!!BING Mobile now available!!

This is just livesearch with rebranding, but all livesearch searched are being defaulted to Bing so, it is the same and it isn't if you catch my drift. Oh, and Bing is awesome. I have quit using google. You can read my review of Bing if you want in my blog. I think if you click the thing in my signature that will get you there. I am not saying it is well written though.

Yeah, me too. Looks like maybe French? I tried guessing how to change settings to English, but not knowing what the words mean, I ended up removing traffic - the only part of old Live Search that was of any use to me. Arrrgh.

Update: Success! Well, partial success; apparently 'carte' is traffic in whatever language. And, the carte (traffic) map image shows city names in English. Yey! The rest of the page is still foreign, though.

The only difference I've noticed is it's called Bing and not Live Search anymore, other then that it's the same product.

Here is an even easier way to get it:
http://mobile.search.live.com/client...ad_manual.aspx
Just download the type for your device.
I've also loved the new Bing. A great step in a great direction for Microsoft. I just hope they update Windows Seven before release to update some of the GUI to reflect Bing.

Re: Update!!BING Mobile now available!!

I'm glad automatic GPS location works now but I think the new GUI is slower and clunkier than the old GUI. There used to be more categories right on the home screen before but now it's an extra tap to get to them. When I pick a category, the program seems slow and unresponsive. When I browse movies, the movies are not listed alphabetically and scrolling is choppy. Same thing with other categories. Basically this is a downgrade in every way. I'd rather type in a zip code or manually check GPS location in the old version than deal with this sluggishness. It's even slow to close the program.

The maps are better, but I already have Google Maps.

Re: Update!!BING Mobile now available!!

Yeah the scrolling is horrible and choppy....i don't see a way to change the home screen background either. The app was good before im not sure where they want to head with this but im glad it only a Beta

Re: Update!!BING Mobile now available!!

I downloaded and installed the new version that is said to be for 6.1 and 6.5 to my vogue. I think that Microsoft is being sneaky with this app. I think that they have included a script that runs intermitantly that checks to see what device the app is installed on. That way they can make this new version unusable on older devices like the vogue. I guess they are doing this to push people to get newer devices. I say this because I installed the app ok and opened it up several times trying different parts of the app and everything I tried worked. That is until after what seemed like various amounts of time, a popup would appear and say something like "It appears this application is not supported for your device, please install the Windows Mobile 6 version." The thing is, every time I opened the app everything I tried worked until this popup came up! I even opened up the map part and I got a gps lock in less than 5 seconds! I think they are screwing with us! I hope someone figures out how to get around this. BS!! :(

I thought th new Beta Bing app was using cell location. The old Bing would never get GPS in my loft. Now i get instant location..Assuming its from cell towers? Anyone confirm that?

From the posts on xda forum, it looks like the "new" Bing isn't supported on QVGA devices.

I tried installing on my Omnia and got the "Your device is not supported" message.

Re: Update!!BING Mobile now available!!

This new Bing is a step down from the old WM6 one if you ask me. One feature I liked was that it was so easy to look for something.. anything at or near your current GPS location. This new beta ruined that. Was in Salt Lake City on a snowboard trip last week and it was useless for that. We were looking for the closest chinese resturant and if was just frustrating. Uninstalled it, reinstalled live search and presto. Had one within walking distance.
Hopefully they fix that little problem in the next beta.

Anyone figure out where the settings are stored? I constantly reflash and HATE having to accept the Terms of Service and tell the program to use my location. Also, how do I make it stop making a folder on the root of my SD Card?

I think the root folder is for the local cache. I think there is an option to turn it off after first run.

lol... yea, bing has still never been helpful to me, ppc or pc/web. I'm not sure who's system they bought, but it was a waste of money. they should have googled to find a better one.. :joker:

Re: Update!!BING Mobile now available!!

So I just installed the new bing beta for the first time yesterday, and besides reading that pretty much everyone says it is worse, I have a question. The main reason I used Bing over google maps sometimes was because after I enter a route on old bing and had gps turned on it would give the distance to the next turn in real time, and the driving directions would change and keep up with me as I navigated the route. In the new bing beta i had my route on the map and gps on but I could not get the next turn distance to count down or much less change to the next set of instructions when I turn. Can the new bing still lock the route onto your gps signal or did they break it that much?

I seriously wish google would put google navigation on winmo.
