How to protect your data if your phone gets stolen?

Hi guys,

I've been visiting the forum for a few months and have learned a lot. I appreciate everyone's contributions. I have been searching with no success about what can you do if your phone gets lost/stolen to protect your data? I know WinMo has the option to lock with password everytime you press the power button, but that gets annoying if you need to type a password every time you want to use the phone. Are there any tools that you can use to maybe remotely lock/block/erase all sensitive data on your phone if it gets stolen? I'm thinking you don't want some lucky thief reading your emails, contacts, websites that have passwords saved, etc.? That would make it so easy to get your identity stolen...

Again, thanks to all of you who spend time helping others!

Re: How to protect your data if your phone gets stolen?

There's a couple programs out there that will lock your phone remotely if you send certain text, or delete data, or send you it's GPS location.

One highly recommended program (it costs money however) is Sprite Terminator. The PPCGeeks thread about it is here, and I believe you'll find a few links in there to other (free) programs that do similar things.

Good luck, I'm sure there's plenty more out there!

Thank you. I had Technician on my Treo and was wondering if the same thing existed for WM.

Re: How to protect your data if your phone gets stolen?

If you happen to use Exchange 2007 there's a remote wipe capability baked into the web client. There's also a program called remoteProtect (I think) - not sure if it's compatible with the TP - that allows a full wipe based on a text message. Back in the day you could bake it into a custom ROM so even a hard reset wouldn't remove it. There's also nuegpssecurity...I'm not sure if it has a wipe capability or not.

Edit: I know there are others...those are just the ones I'm somewhat familiar with. I see SmartPhoneTracker mentioned a lot as noted above...do a search and see what comes up. I think MightyMike bakes nuegpssecurity into all his ROMs, but I'm not positive...
