The True Active Sync Fix (Fixed And Updated 8/16/09)

1 Attachment(s)

This Right Here Is Revolutionary!! ;)
Have you ever been out and about,
and checked your task manager and saw that Activesync has started up randomly,
and is running in the background sucking down your battery?
Then this is just the program that you need!

ASKicker is just a few different simple scripts that I molded together.

What does this do?
Well basically this program scans a registry location on your phone that tells your phone whether you have a USB cable plugged in or not.
Based off of that information, if you do not have the USB cable plugged in, then the script will close out of ActiveSync everytime it runs. When you plug in the USB cable (Or place the phone on a dock), ASKicker will then open ActiveSync and wait for you to unplug the phone from the USB cable so it can kill ActiveSync from running.

This should not affect push mail.
I do not have nor use push mail, so everyone that uses it, please give me feedback if it does affect it. But according to everything I've read online about Activesync and push mail, ASKicker shouldn't bother it at all. Infact, that's part of the main reasons why I've created this solution.

What are the requirements?
Only two things are needed:
First and foremost you'll need this registry location:
HKLM\Software\OEM\USB
"Cable_In" "0"=No "1"=Yes
(My Vogue and TouchPro Have This,
So I'm Sure Most Of PPCs Have This!)
Secondly you'll need Mortscript.
You can get a copy of this
and the manual and a few examples
at the Download Link in my FAQ(Link In Signature).
Tested On:
  • Touch Pro (CDMA) - Working
  • Vogue (CDMA) - Working
Notes:
This Is Still In Beta!

There are two shortcuts that are created in the start menu.
The first one is "ASKicker"
This shortcut will either start the script, or if it is already running, it will ask if you want to end the script.
The second one is "ASKicker Settings".
With this shortcut, you will be able to choose a few different things. There is an option to open the Instructions and ReadMe documents. You're also able to turn on and off the AutoOn at StartUp option(Default On). Aswell you're able to choose the amount of time that the script waits to run again, you're able to choose from either 5,10,15,20,25,and 30 seconds (Default 15).
Please keep in mind the higher the amount of time, the longer that ActiveSync could be open before the script runs again, and also the longer that it could take for ActiveSync to start up when you plug it into the USB.
This is VERY light weight.
The biggest part about this program is the Instructions and ReadMe Word Documents and the Icon Dll.

Coming Soon:
Custom user input for the amount of seconds the script waits to run again.
(Currently only have a choice from the presets).

App-To-Date Support.

Better User Interface coming later.

Rapidshare Download Mirror.

XDA-Developers Thread!!

This Program has been completely reworked.
If you have any problems what-so-ever, let me know ASAP!

Reserved.
(Just because everyone else does it.) :D:D

I willbe keeping a to list at both PPCGeeks and XDA-Developers with the different requests.
Can't guarantee I will incorporate them, but will try my best to when I have the time. ;)

So is there just a cab install or is this a reg edit?
Great Work! :)

It's scripts that run, cab installs them to the locations needed.
No registry edits what so ever,
(except one registry edit for the start menu icon,
but that has absolutely no affect on the actual scripts.)

The scripts read a registry location so it knows exactly what to do.

What does the registry edit for the start menu icon do?

All the registry edit does is just makes the link have the icon.

Each one loops at different intervals: (look at underlined part)

This Activesync Solution, or ASKicker as I like to call it,
(ASKiller and ASyncKiller were already taken)
runs in the background,
and you have the option of having it check every
Ten seconds (v10S), Twenty seconds (v20S), or Thirty seconds (v30S).

Looks like good work :D.

My question is a bit side pulling, but why would I need to ensure the ActiveSync app is dead?

Also interesting that your solution won't break my push mail. I might give it a look at ;)

ATTN:
I have only personally tested the v30S (30 second loop)
My friend just tried the v10S, and it is giving him errors,
I will try and figure out what's going on when I get back from a cigar break.
(I think I just didn't update a file in the cab)
Please let me know if anyone else get's errors.

I will write a quick script to stop the error pop up here in a moment.

Some people just find it annoying that it pops up and runs in the background constantly and will drain battery.

It shouldn't kill your push mail(it doesn't kill the necessary background running process for that, let me know if it does for any reason so I can look into it.

ATT: Please look at my last post everyone!
