This is obviously not something you're going to do with someone you trust and I don't think it's meant to be used in court. It's not always illegal, but you're correct about it being inadmissable.
I think it might have some value (as someone else said) in monitoring your kids... maybe getting the attention of someone who isn't hearing their phone ring...
You guys are probably right- it could easily be abused and get way out of hand. But it might be fun in the meanwhile. I guess you just have to make sure that you really don't care about what the other person thinks about you before you use it.
