I got a response back from TJ and here's what he said about the pop up keyboard:

And I reported the hardware keyboard problem which they didn't know about before.

Is there a freeware option to this software? It seems pretty simple. I am willing to bet one of the talented dev's could whip up a app that could rival UltimateSearch. IMHO.
Maybe a app thats not a bloated as the Windows & Google today plugins
... just my 2 cents ...

just downloaded it today..and its pretty nice...i speant about half hour playing with it great find

We shall have none of that talk here...I suggest you pony up the $10 or whatever it is and pay for the app.

ive looked and looked but I can't figure out how to make ultimate search use opera mobile instead of I.E. --- anyone know?

I want to be able to make a custom search...Anyone know of a customizable today search plugin?

this hass its ups and downs...maybe this is me but sometimes when i search dictionary or answers it says not availabe...whats with that

i like the program a lot, but when using it with the HTC home plug, you cant slide the keyboard out, and when in portrait mode, the keyboard covers up the text...so its not really a one hand type app...unless somone knows of a better keyboard to use with it
