TouchPal 4.0 Officially Released 5/20/08
Hopefully, I'm not duplicating a thread I missed.
http://www.cootek.com/ I did not try the beta but I'm curious if they corrected some of the things folk here objected to earlier. I've installed the new release and so far so good. A different layout for sure than 3.5. I haven't had time to use it long enough to form an opinion. |

4.0 definitely takes a little getting used to. I was so use to doing swipes and motions from 3.5 that I had a lot of typos in the beginning. However, after using it for a while I must say I like it a lot more. I 'feels' a little more responsive than the last version. That may be in my head though, who knows...

Re: TouchPal 4.0 Officially Released 5/20/08
OK. V4 gets a couple of thumbs up from me.
First, TouchPal installs easily and elegantly. Finally. V4 cleared out V3.5, kept my dictionary, and filled in my challenge and registration code automatically. More importantly, I like the way it handles better than 3.5. I've been a TouchPal fan since the first release but 3.5 seemed to have control issues that made it hard for me to get the right words entered unless I turned off some of the bell and whistle features. V4 "feels" right and I've been enjoying both the swipe and the regular layouts. My jury is out on whether I like it better than FingerKeyboard or not. They are both super on-screen KBs. Between the two of them and the HW keyboard with the light-on fix, I'm all set. BTW, among other things, I am a professional writer and I do a LOT of typing on my TP.

Re: TouchPal 4.0 Officially Released 5/20/08
Overall I am liking v4 much better than v3.5 with one exception. I find the swiping for symbols on the main kb (in v3.5) more efficient than having to switch to the 'symbols' panel for most of the symbols (v4). A variety of symbols use to be so close and easily accessible, now I have to switch to a new page to access anything besides .,? and !. The main kb now has two different ways to enter both a period and a comma. It seems like this space would have been better allocated to a different symbol rather than repeating something that is already there.
Overall, v4 does 'feel' much better and faster than 3.5. It does take some getting use to, and I continue to put '8' where I meant '.' I'll stick with 4 though. I do still have the 3.5 cab if anyone makes the switch and wants to go back. i'll post it later JIC. Last edited by mlin; 05-22-2009 at 08:07 PM. |

TouchPal V4 Official is Released
I hated the beta because of the changes in the T+ layout. For users like myself that prefer the previous T+ layout I have included the layout patch. To install the patch, navigate to TouchPal/surfaces/english and copy the file over the existing and soft reset.
