Did they increase the number of stored phrases ? Lol are those even still there? I've been using touchpal since my vogue, v4 sounds discouraging

I don't want to update to 4.0.
But I have 3.5 still and it looks like it's slow. I mean right when I select a text box and when the keyboard comes up, it comes up patchy.. not fluidly.. but with hiccups. And then sometimes right after I start typing, and if I type a little fast it kinda hangs for a second before it regains its composure. After that there's no more hanging.

I recently did a hard reset for this same reason, and it's still there.
Any help?

Try reinstalling. Back up your user dictionary located in the\TouchPal\surfaces folder first, then uninstall. Delete leftover folder (3.5 doesn't delete it when you uninstall) and reinstall.

Even though I recently installed over a fresh ROM flash?

It depends on where you installed it. I have noticed that it will "hiccup" more when not installed to device memory.

I did everything you mentioned and installed it again to the device mem. I still see the hiccups. :(

Okay, here's the checklist
1)Disable advanced animation
2)Uncheck sound effect
these 2 items seem to slow it down.
Rarely, some other sips will affect it too.
I'm posting mobile from the hospital right now, but disabling other keyboards can help too. Check the Vogue forum for the registry hacks.

Done and done, and no go. :(
I even posted on the cootek forum in detail, let's see what comes up.

I installed on mightyrom4 & it will not work. Anyone have cab of 3.5?

edit: I reinstalled V4 & it works now. What is with the space @ the bottom? it takes up a lot of screen space to have "shift, dict, en, sym, enter". I like the "feel" of V4 but that is a lot of space taken up!

You can turn off the "toolbox" & it will eliminate that.

Most of us long time TP fans have gone back to 3.5 however.

IMHO, 4.0 is a makor downgrade........

I agree with that. CooTek screwed up a good thing with V4.

I have never used the term 'epic fail' before. At times I've also frowned at my monitor when I see it being used. So here goes

TouchPal 4 = epic fail

I felt lame just typing it. But I'm glad its off my chest.

Also I only get that lag with 3.5 / 6.5 if my phone is connecting at the time i'm using the keyboard. For me I narrowed it down to when its checking mail or connecting to wifi

I ought to send Michael @ Cootek a link to this post. I think they know by now though.

ROTFL, I hate that term myself but it certainly applies here.

I suppose if you had never tried TP before, you might think this version was not too bad but I can't even imagine any long time TP user liking the changes.

Changing the format of the KB is one thing, some people will love the change & others will hate it (that's how it is with any change). What really has me scratching my head is, they eliminated options/features that people use all the time & there seems to be no way to re-enable them.

When I first installed 4.0 & was trying it out, I immediately knew something was different that slowed me down, but couldn't put my finger on the change right away.

I finally realized what was going on when I A/B'ed it side by side with a spare TP I own that still had TP 3.5 installed. That was when I realized the "show word candidate inline" option was not working in 4.0. This is one of the features I always liked about 3.5. Some other KB's do this also (Resco & FingerKB also do this for instance) & I will never use a KB that does not have this feature.

I figured it had to be turned off by default in 4.0 since it always worked well in 3.5 & spent 10 minutes trying to figure out how to turn it on. I finally realized that the option has been eliminated. Why on earth they would totally eliminate a feature that was working perfectly is beyond me, but that change alone would force me back to 3.5 if nothing else did (they made a bunch of other changes also & I don't like ANY of them)

I guess it works better in landscape now, but I wouldn't know as TP works so well in portrait mode there is no reason to ever use landscape.

The change in the Keyboard was enough for me. I type horribly slow on a desktop, and TP allowes me to type with a great deal of speed. I never use the landscape mode, and don't use the word candidate inline but the added bulk to the program, added toolbars were things I didn't care for. Supposedly they are in the process of a rewrite, but at this point I could care less, because 3.5 works for me.

Back to 3.5 as well. I really gave v4 a try but it didn't cut it.
