Updated with latest version...

3.2.1 includes:

Quote:

  • Places of interest: Selectable icons and labels on the map allow you to choose prominent businesses or places of interest in order to see business info, reviews, photos, Wikipedia articles, and a lot of other local information. To select an icon or label, use the 5-way pad or joystick to pan it to the center of the screen or tap it on touchscreen phones. Learn more about these icons and labels already available on maps.google.com.
  • Favorite Places (English only): Explore the favorite places of local experts from cities around the world. Find out where they like to go, and why, from their own perspectives. From the Maps main menu, go to 'Layers' > 'More Layers' > 'Favorite places.' You can also see these on your computer by going to http://google.com/favoriteplaces.
  • Layers: The "More Layers" list of layers is now organized as a tree of layer categories.

Don't forget to leave Google Maps on and running with GPS enabled when your driving to aid in traffic congestion awareness:

would be nice if google saw where I was when giving directions. It highlights the roads to travel, but doesn't take away the highlighted area once traveled. Sometimes it is a little difficult to see the little blue dot on a pink line when driving. If I miss a turn, it just shows where I am and doesn't re-route. I have to stop on side of road, find where I missed turn and make a new route. Until it is fixed, changed, modded, or what have you, I use google maps to launch gps, then switch to amaze to get driving directions, at least it will re-calculate route if I miss a turn, or traffic is heavy and I divert.

yea, I don't trust gps routes anyway so I like it not wasting power/data for re-routes.
I guess i'm just old school that way. I just need to know where destination is, I'll figure out the rest.

If they could make this does re-routes it would be great. I know it does not do voice prompts but it kinda sucks that it won't re-route. I think an update will come with that or maybe google will be smart enough to just create there own navigation system or download

Is anyone else having trouble with the My Maps layer? I put my user/pass in and it says Loading My Maps Failed. I'm using a non-gmail e-mail address. I wouldn't think that would matter, but maybe.
