GPSToday v0.9.9.7 Beta

1 Attachment(s)
UPDATED v0.9.9.7 Beta is available for download now !

New/updated features in version 0.9.9.7:

Driving/Walking directions in many countries, with traffic-optimization option.
Log file plotting on map and animated "playback". Also, the geologger will now never clip corners, and will perfectly follow loopy highway ramps. You can now also upload your log-files to the desktop website.(full-featured log-editing on the desktop coming soon)
Location Tracking and sharing (GeoLocation). Track your location history online for your own private use, or share with friends/family. The power-saving ability of GPSToday means you can leave it on indefinitely without worrying about the battery.
Easily and privately (or publicly) share points-of-interest, pictures, messages with like-minded folks (GeoGroups). eg. Track or update swine-flu locations, right from your phone. The possibilities are endless.
'Slideshow' through all your address-book contacts on the map, or through driving directions, or local search results, or all friends' mobile locations
Satellite,Hybrid map views, and many more enhancements for ease of use.
Nearly worldwide support for many features that were previously US only.
Essentially the works, all in a still small package. More features are listed below the screenshots.

This software will not work on OS older than Windows Mobile 5.0 versions, or on any non-touchscreen smartphone. Data plan is recommended for online map features, but not necessary for offline features like geologging or geotagging. An Integrated GPS is advisable (but not mandatory) to fully enjoy the software.

It utilizes intelligent algorithms to always maintain and display a fix on your position right on your today screen, without draining the battery.
Always see your full street address, not just geo-coordinates.
GPSToday always shows the distance to the nearest contact from your device's address book.
Single tap to create a new contact with your current location as the address, or save the current location as an existing contact's address. Imagine not having to type the full street address on the PPC keyboard!
You will never need the stylus to use GPSToday!
Speed, heading and satellite data is shown clearly on the today screen whenever the GPS is running.
In-pocket tap protection. A single tap on the today screen only operates the GPS in quick fix mode. To fully start the GPS in continuous mode requires an iphone like sliding motion, guaranteeing no pocket accidents.
Single tap from the today screen to access fully draggable online maps!
Always see all your address book contacts on the map. Just tap a contact to quickly call/email or send sms.
Single tap from today screen to quickly do a yahoo local search around your current position and see the results on a live map. Just tap a result to call or open the website.
High quality Yelp Reviews for local search results!
Fetch the full street address for any point on the map.
GPSToday automatically disables data access when your device goes into roaming mode.
New! Install the GeoTagger add-on to have pictures automatically geo-tagged with current location!
You can also manually geotag single or sets of pictures by selecting the desired location on the map.
And many more features.
Best of all, its free!

Santod - C'mon man, your just out there trolling to post lil' updates to older threads - why not just find the last thread via a search

Official Thread Here @ ppcgeeks
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...light=GPSToday

and

Someone else like yourself who beat you to the punch...
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread...light=GPSToday

and post the update there as a response- if the op doesn't update the thread in a day or two then make a new thread.

I like a lot of what your doing, but your goin' just a little too fast, for instance - post a link to the originating thread - especially the authors thread - or wherever you got the info from - otherwise tomorrow, when a new version comes, out no one knows... then this thread is old, and someone like you creates a new one. Much better to have one defined thread about an ap than 12 different ones with different versions floating around to find anything...

Welcome to ppcgeeks! now SEARCH!!!!

Re: GPSToday v0.9.9.7 Beta

Thanks Nuguy, however I disagree with you on most of what you said. I am not out there trolling around to post updates to old threads bro. I am trying to find the latest and greatest software for my phone constantly. If I happen to find or create something useful, I like to share it with others who may find it useful as well. I search the forums just fine on my own and forgive me if I missed the 6 month old thread about GPSToday. It just so happens that there are new threads started everyday regarding an updated release of software, for instance Opera Mobile and Mini, every new version gets a new thread! I personally don't mind, since even when you post an updated link in an existing thread, the OP sometimes does not update the original post. Then it appears as if the old thread got some new attention, but nothing major has happened. I like to know about new software revisions in the OP Title, myself. Anyhow, you don't have to read my threads or keep them active by replying with such a waste of a response, to a thread you didn't want to see to begin with. I'm here because this is a positive community who shares a common interest with me, if you don't like my threads, don't read them, I'm here to help and share with others. Later.

basically posting in the existing thread saves coz merging it.
many of us like to subscribe to threads so we're kept up to date, as we don't always see new posts. also if we have to subscribe to multiple threads, when do we remember to delete the old subscription.... recently there was a site-wide cleanup of subscriptions, as they are a heavy load.
anyway, glad I know about the new version. :)

@not_a_Stain - I just use the gps camera mode, when I want gps tags.

Re: GPSToday v0.9.9.7 Beta

I cant get this version or the previous one to work. What am I missing? TP, stock verizon ROM. My google maps, GarminXT and GPS2clipboard are all working fine. All I ever get is the the red box with the little green dot.

I really just want to geotag pics....I have also tried the GPS photo mode enabled from daimond tweaks but it just stays stuck at "initializing" What gives?

I would really appriciate some help. THANK YOU!

upload to flickr and see if it will map it of get Exif reader (free) and open a photo in it and see if the coordinates are n the data.

Did you have to do any configuring to your phone to get GPStoday to get a lock?

Waiting on the today plugin version :-[

Re: GPSToday v0.9.9.7 Beta

I installed it early yesterday and had problems getting the map to display. Bunches of changes to the layout, for the most part nice, but really nothing outstandingly different. Back to the previous today plug-in last night.

GPSToday 05-01-2009 06:44 AM

Re: GPSToday v0.9.9.7 Beta

BenC,
The new version uses ms virtual earth maps instead of google maps, therefore the map images were probably not already in your cache, causing them to be downloaded afresh.
Besides that, GPSToday now does driving directions, location sharing, and most importantly, geogroups. Any user can now create or join a geogroup to collaborate on location data, without having to divulge your identity. Being the group-owner of a popular group will have (monetary) benefits down the line. Early users have already snapped up the most important groups like speed-traps, geocaching, foreclosures and so on.
Also, the today-plugin version with all the new features will be released next week.

Thanks
-The GeoTerrestrial Team

Edit: infact it looks as if no one has yet created a group "ppcgeeks-users" or similar.

GPStoday find my loc very fast but after that how do I geo tag pics? On the site it wasn't clear to me on how to do so. Any help from anybody would help

That would answer why it loaded the map 1 time REAL slowly and then not at all. I am looking forward to the plug-in. Thanks!

I got the beta downlaed and keep getting this sign in error everytime I soft reset my phone

GPSToday 05-10-2009 09:28 PM

Re: GPSToday v0.9.9.7 Beta

Not_A_Stain, if you completed the sign-in process you shud not be getting that message. If you did not sign-in, and dont intend to, ideally you should uninstall GPSToday as its not really doing anything for you. You could keep the installation CAB around if you want, for when you need to re-install when needed.

Re: GPSToday v0.9.9.7 Beta

Hi dschoenike, yep the today-plugin version is getting delayed...we are working on it though. We have got thousands of signups from users of the full-screen version, and who are giving a lot of feedback (the new version allows asking for support and sending feedback from within the app, so its easy). Right now it seems to make sense for us to release the today plugin with those user requests already incorporated, so its taking a lil bit longer.

GPSToday, thanks for the update on progress. Keep us posted!

Re: GPSToday v0.9.9.7 Beta

Thank you for the update. I again installed the new beta and gosh, it never ever loaded the map. I gave up. I took a 2 second nap. Checked again. Never ever loaded up. Deleted and went back to the plug-in.

Re: GPSToday v0.9.9.7 Beta

New May 10 '09: Update your twitter status manually from within the GPSToday app. Just send a message to username 'twitter' via the Inbox in GPSToday.
Upload your GeoLogger log files from within the app and view on desktop and export to GPX format on your online GeoGroups page.
If you already have version 0.9.9.7, you do not need to update your installation of GPSToday to access the above 2 new features.

GPSToday 05-11-2009 07:48 PM

Re: GPSToday v0.9.9.7 Beta

BenC, what is your gpstoday username? We can try to find out why your map requests failed/took too long.

Thanks

I have fully reg for this app and everything so I don't know why it keeps popping up? It never did this b4 I download the beta ver

Re: GPSToday v0.9.9.7 Beta

not_a_stain, the new version uses different underlying services for most things compared to the old version, therefore you should register from scratch again in the new version if its not working (try a different username if still problems). keep in mind that once the new version becomes stable(both full-screen&today-plugin), the old versions will stop working because we will stop paying our vendors for the old services.

also, what is your gpstoday username? we will find out why you faced problems and fix it.

Re: GPSToday v0.9.9.7 Beta

Have you checked the GPS settings? Are you allowing Windows to control it or manually (if manually, try comm port 4 at 4800 or so).

mikenerd 05-17-2009 02:51 PM

Re: GPSToday v0.9.9.7 Beta

I let window control the gps with comm 4 and 4800 selected. when I turn off windows control nothing works. I dont get it.

Does GPStoday ever cause your devices to hang on a soft-reset? I've noticed this on various devices...most notably the GSM Treo Pro.

How can i set the app to stay on. I press the red satellite button and get a lock. after about 30 seconds it goes off and I need to press the red satellite button again to get a sat lock. Is there a way I don't have to keep pressing the sat button every 30 seconds?

If you press the little red box, and slide it all the way over to the right, it'll stay green then.

Of course our own opinion is biased, but here is how:

At the most basic level, except street-view and live traffic, GPStoday does everything that google maps does, but GPStoday also does a whole bunch of things google maps does not. Some of these are listed below:

1. GeoWeather: Automatically see your GPS based local weather, and/or get the weather for any location on map.

2. GeoTagger: Automatically geotag pictures you snap on your phone with your GPS position, and/or geotag pictures by choosing location on map.

3. GeoLogger: Log your movements with near survey quality to a file on your phone. View the log file track on the GPStoday map, even "play" it back if needed. Upload to your online account from within the app. Manage/View/Export to GPX on website.

4. Always see your street address, nearest contact from address book, or your geogroups network.

5. GeoGroups: Map and share points-of-interest, pictures, messages, with friends/family or like-minded folks, or as a private location sharing hub for all your company's employees. http://www.geoterrestrial.com/geogroups/

6. GeoAlerts(coming soon): Get notified whenever something of your interest happens in your vicinity.

7. The list is too long. Goto http://www.geoterrestrial.com/ to see all the features.

Thanks,
-The GeoTerrestrial Team
