Is there anything of the sort out there right now? I did a quick search and came up empty. I've been trying to use Latitude but it doesn't give up-to-date info on where my families phones are. I'd like something that like in OnCourse, it tracks where they've been, the route they took, etc.

There is a lot that you could do with it. Not to mention the whole issue of kidnapping, lost children, etc. I think it would be a very useful and popular application that I would be putting on my children's phones.

there are several gps logging apps that will post to various internet portals. otherwise there's always somthing like sprite terminator or VirtualMoblile

I have been trying for a while to find some GPS/CellID tracking programs that work fine but most of them are buggy and not very accurate. That's why I decided to write my own!

Features:

- Ability to generate KML and GPX files that can be opened with any tool that supports that type of file.
- Realtime tracking with Google Earth or Google Maps.
- You can create and manage your own trips
- No internet connection is needed when using TrackMe (Offline mode)
- Ability to display your current position on your PDA

Alert states

Using an Internet connected Windows PC with our KoolTrax™ PC software (included) installed, you can set up one or more geographic boundaries by drawing an on screen map. Then when the person leaves (or enters) the area, you can set it to alert you either on-screen, by email or by mobile text message.

*What if I don't have a Windows Mobile 5 phone?

In order to use KoolTrax™ Mobile software to turn your mobile phone or PDA into a personal GPS tracker, your phone needs to be running Windows Mobile 5+ and have NMEA compliant GPS capability.
If you don't know whether your phone is running Windows Mobile 5+, there's a screenshot on Wikipedia which shows you what it looks like.
KoolTrax™ Mobile also requires a device with GPS capability.
If your phone or PDA is incompatible but you want KoolTrax™ Mobile, here are some options.
If your phone or PDA isn't Windows Mobile 5+, then you might consider taking the opportunity to get a new phone. If you're doing that, aim for a phone that has inbuilt GPS such as the Mio A701 available through Amazon.
Alternatively if your phone or PDA supports Java, a Java version of KoolTrax™ Mobile is under development, so you might prefer to wait for that. Sign up to receive notification when KoolTrax™ Mobile Java is launched.
The most common phone operating system is Symbian. If you have a Nokia, Ericsson, Sony Ericsson, Panasonic, Siemens AG, Samsung or BenQ phone it's likely it's running Symbian rather than Windows Mobile 5. We are developing a Symbian version too. My only concern is that you might not be able to track if you don't have the phone. For example if the phone is lost, stolen, etc.
