I keep coming back to OliveTree, despite the lack of updates. I likethat u can change font and background colors to make reading easier. You have more choices than other developers give u. I also like that u can change the menus to work with the Windows Soft Keys, making it easier to use a finger. You can also turn on screen tapping, and customize it tp make navigation easier.

I agree that olivetree has the most extensive library... It really has some great serious bible study tools. I just wish they would update the actual bible reader program. They've devoted so much time to the iphone and blackberry programs, the WinMo version of the Biblereader is woefully behind.

They also don't have a desktop reader which forces you to pay again for another program if you want to use it on your computer.

I use Mobipocket which works really nice. It allows you to annotate, highlight and link. You can then just view the annotations and jump right to them. It's free. Plus it's used for multiple books not just the Bibile. You can then purchase the bible, or the LDS church offered for free in the past for mobipocket, you have to dig to find it I believe. Although it is the KJV, Mobivpocket shows the NIV @ 14.99 and the ESV for 9.99. I would recommend this route, you can then purchase other books, as well as they have Desktop software you can use to convert any documents to be used on your pda.

Anybody else use it in the past?

Also try yanceyware if you don't mind the KJV which is completely free, but I haven't used any newer version, and liked mobipocket better.

I'll just put my 0.02 in for PocketBible from Laridian. I know it adds up, but they stay on top of the product, put out tons of stuff to suit your needs, and it works really well. I have about 6 translations, several commentaries, devotionals, etc... Plus they have a PC companion version as well. I really like it!

+1 for Laridian! I used their "MyBible" when I had Palm OS, and use PocketBible now on my Treo Pro. Great product that they're always updating, adding little stuff here and there. And plus when I switched platforms all I had to pay for was a new reader and I could download all my exisiting purchased translations but in the WM format!

Does anybody know why there are some major alignment problems with esword on the latest releases of MightyROM? Is it the newer build of WM 6.1 that is the issue? Any ideas on how to resolve the alignment and sizing issues? It works great with the stock ROM, but I suspect more might experience issues when moving to later builds of WM.

Did you soft reset after installing it? If not, do that.

Laridian also offers great support. I had a old copy of pocket bible but when i upgraded to my treo pro the new resolution wasnt supported. I emailed them about it and all i had to do was buy pocket bible 4 for 10 bucks and they would give me the new versions of all the bibles i had free of charge. Even though my copy of pocket bible was purchased from a different company that was just licensing their product.

OliveTree seems like the opposite of Laridian nowadays. They just released another update to their iphone program (the 3rd update this year).... the Windows Mobile version hasn't seen a major update in years. I'd recommend looking at Laridian or esword. (unless you are an iphone user)

I have the Laridian bronze package and a couple of extra devotionals/commentaries. No complaints at all.

My only wish is that they'd implement was fluid scrolling (TouchFLO-like) to the software; the gestures are a bit slow imo.

I've had Laradian pocket bible for over 5 yrs now and they have always gotten better and better. Their service is great. I too had older version on a different phone but only had to pay for the newer version and then had access to the newer version of all that I had purchased from the previous ones. Also, they have a great selection of different free bible translations. I have about 8 different translations that I can easily switch from one to another. And...they also have other free devotionals too.

I like Olivetree but have been getting more and more frustrated at it... They had a PC version that would read the ebooks, then decided to disable it in all new ebooks and updates to old ones... They sold versions of their software and ebooks via 3rd parties, but won't provide the updates... They come out with a new version of the reader that won't read the old format ebooks... (I use other PDAs too :)

Will probably switch to something if and when I get a new phone (TP2 I hope)

Yeah it is really Sad that Olivetree has really abandoned the PPC arena. They used to be so good at updating and having great resources. The resources are still good but the BibleReader program is really archaic to use.

Does anybody know of a Bible program (online takes too long) with a Amplified or a New Living version? Any help is appreciated.

Yeah, I know DON'T give off a Christian type vibe which is wrong, but ....... it's another post.

I use esword in conjunction with ESV, which is free and good - I don't miss NIV at all, since my church started using ESV for the sermons.

One positive thing that I recently discovered is that Olivetree also has and Android Bible Reader. I tried it in my Touch Pro 2 (running the newly ported Android)... It works much nicer than the Winmo program. The nice thing is that you can log in to your account at Olive Tree and download all your purchased bible modules to use in Android...

I like the English Standard Version. You can find it at www.gnpcb.org/esv/browse it is very fast on my Imagio, you dont need to download anything, it doesn't cost anything and is very easy to use.

Something new in Beta for users of the desktop Logos (Libronix) Bible Software is a website to read their books on their mobile phones. Go to http://library.logos.com from your mobile phohne and log into your Logos account. Of the thousand or so books I own in the desktop version, I can access 376 through this mobile portal. (They need to get publishers to agree to the new access.)

Looks like the maker of Pocket Esword is no longer supporting it, although its still available for download.

It sort of works on my HD2, but not as well as it did on my Touch Pro. The larger screen on the HD2 causes the splash screen and some other things to mess up a little, but the app is still very functional overall.

Re: Bible Program? Anybody know of any?

I've been using Laridians Pocket Bible for as long as its been available for the Pocket PC and then started using it on all my smartphones since my Apache.

However, I've run into a problem. While I can read the Bible (NIV Version) on it fine, my daily devotional (One Year Walk With God) has quit working. If I try to jump to "todays" verse, it freezes and I get a popup message to pick a date between Jan 1, 1962 and Dec 31, 1962. Yep, 1962!
I thought it was because I was running a custom ROM but it does it on stock too. It worked fine on my touch pro, so I wonder if its a WM 6.5 thing? Although I was running 6.5 custom ROMs on my tp too. Hmm. Looks like I'll have to email support for the first time in about 6 years. :-)

David
