[4/16/09] iContact v.93 is out now (now with sensor scroll and faster recents)

1 Attachment(s)
New version out now, see the quoted box below for more details. Past version's changelogs can be seen on the developer's site.
Noteable features: recents list loads faster and the addition of gravity to sensor scroll, which makes the sensor scroll more/less depending on tilt angle of phone.

Great app, continually being updated and improved. I love the grid display of the letters and find it much easier to get to the contacts. Yes it still supports normal finger scrolling as well. Give it a try! Here's the xda thread about it. This can be used on QVGA and VGA devices, but your device must have a G-sensor for the tilt scrolling to work. It does work on the touch pro, although not noted in the author's post. Skins can be found here.

(taken from the xda thread)
Quote:

A new edition of iContact is ready for download, v0.93, which speeds up the load time for recents by 60 TIMES. There's also a new icon to match the new VGA theme, and a few tweaks here and there.

Here's the full list of improvements:
  • Sped up recents list load time by 60 TIMES!
  • Added error message for missing skin
  • Added "gravity" setting to registry (accepts values from -100 to 100)
  • Fixed screen flicker on long press (thanks l3v5y!)
  • Gave title bar battery better resolution
  • Updated icon with VGA to match default skin
  • Updated Favorite Category setting to display all categories, not just in-use
  • Made iContact detect new skin/language installation
  • Restored ability to scroll down from bottom of list and up from top of list
I've worked really hard in my nights and weekends to bring you these new updates. If you like them, please consider a donation via my web site. As a thank you, I will give donors access to beta versions of iContact.

Please see my website for more details.
To activate the sensor scrolling feature:
Place you thumb in the middle of the dpad (like the center "enter key" on the dpad), but do NOT actually press the button. Just hold your thumb over the center key, and then tilt the screen and it will start scrolling. To stop the scrolling, tilt the phone less, or to completely stop it, lift your thumb off of the button.

The iContact configurations is located under:
Settings > System > iContact

Note: The following are the default skin, and the "iphone" skin. Both are present when installing the cab. Skins can be changed under the configuration menu. Even more skins can be downloaded here.

the sensor scrolling is so fn cool, works on the TP as well.

It scrolls faster the more you tilt your device. Truly awesome.

You just need to edit the registry and point it to icontact. Below is an the location with an example.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila]
"HomeLSKPath"="\\Program Files\\iContact\\iContact.exe"

This contact manager is awesome, a true must have app.

I don't know how practical it will end up being, but the tilt scrolling is one of the coolest features right now in any program.

I've been playing around with it quite a bit now and I think I'm getting the hang of it. I think it will end up being quite a usable function, especially if you're only using one hand.

Re: [3/3/09] iContact v.92 is out now (NOW WITH SENSOR SCROLL!!!)

Note: If your device does not have a home key, this app can still me minimized by hitting the "End" key or by pressing up where the battery meter is inside of iContact. It is a little hard to do that way, but still possible.

To get this mapped inside of TF3D to the "All Contacts" softkey, look at this post, in this thread, about this xda app.

Also, just so everyone knows:

This program installs a settings program where many of its features can be customized. To get to it, go to Start > Settings > System > iContact

I had the old version of this so I thought I install the new version. 1 thing I can't find is the texting history as well as the threaded texting. Where is it?

Are you sure you're not confusing this with pocketcm? I could be wrong, but I don't think iContact has ever threaded the text messages. At least I've never used it for that feature, since winmo started threading them natively.

Oooooo, thank you for the shout out on your faq page.

Glad to have helped a little with an app I love so much.

Let me see if I can help:
To activate the sensor scroll, place your thumb in the middle of the dpad (like the center button), but do NOT actually press the button. Just just place your thumb there, and then tilt the screen and it will start scrolling. I have no idea how supbro did this, I think it really is magic.

Lift your thumb off to stop scrolling.

(Edit: to not seem prejudiced, any digit on you hand can be used as well, it's not just thumb specific, don't want any legal issues! [sorry that was random])

(Edit #2: this is unclear, added to the op)

Standard or Lite? Have you tried this with any other roms? Cause Mike's is usually one of the cleanest, it's just weird that it won't work for you. Anyone else using Mike's care to share your experience?

I use KK's loaded 1.7 and this app works flawlessly for me.

Re: [3/3/09] iContact v.92 is out now (NOW WITH SENSOR SCROLL!!!)

This is by far and away THE best contact app I have come across. It is well thought out, finger friendly, extremely smooth, intuitive, and beautiful. There are pay apps out there, from some big companies (Resco) that can't touch iContact in my opinion.

I have one request and one question:

Is it possible to open the app to the favorites category? In the iContact system settings, there is a "Favorite Category" option which is selected to auto but when I press that button, nothing happens. What is that button for and is mine not working right?

Request: The only thing keeping me from saying this app is PERFECT is I would like to see thumbnails next to my contacts. Any way this can be done?

I think this is what you're looking for:
Inside of iContact, when you click on an actual contact and are taken to the screen that displays all their numbers, there is a gray star in the upper right hand corner. Pressing this star, makes this contact one of your favorites. This not only changes their name to yellow in the all contacts tab, but they will also show up in the Favorite Category. (you can go back to the star and tap it again, to demote the contact to just a regular joe)

There was a version of iContact that did this. It was called Burt Edition, but it is no longer being developed. Someone has tried to take over the project, but hasn't made any releases yet.

Yeah this would be a cool feature to implement. Supbro, maybe in an upcoming version? iContact would be the undeniable king then.

Re: [3/3/09] iContact v.92 is out now (NOW WITH SENSOR SCROLL!!!)

Thanks for the reply. I am familiar with setting the favorites. I guess what I'm asking is how do I get the app to open at the favorites contacts as opposed to opening in the all contacts?

Also in the systems pages what does the selection "favorite category" do? Mine is set to auto but can not be changed. Nothing happens when I press this button.

Two things when you are on an individual contact, you should be able to use a swipe gesture to get back to all contacts, then it can be truly the king, lol as if it isn't already....
Great job supbro

I'm using KKs loaded v1.7.

I just tried to get it to sensor scroll (by holding my finger over the center dpad button) and it wouldn't work for me either. I then actually pressed the center dpad button and started tilting my phone around. It took a couple seconds of tilting, but the sensor scroll started working. Then I was able to go back to the normal operation of just holding my thumb over the center dpad button (not pressing it) and tilting my device back and forth, and it scrolled flawlessly.

That was the first time I'd used iContact today, and I had done a soft reset last night. So, maybe for the initial use each time you open the app, actually try pressing the button. If this still doesn't work, you might want to report the bug over in the xda thread.

Hope that helps.

Yes, a lot of people have gotten this to work. Like I posted before, read through this thread and this xda thread. (If you have any more problems, try posting in one of those threads).

But here you go, I did the work for you:

After Init, in settings, replace POutlook. Check mark "Patch Enabled" and in the new program field, point it to /program files/icontact/icontact.exe (note to use FORWARD slashes "/", not "\"), then click SAVE. Then go into deploy and deploy patch and soft reset.

Hmm, there is one trick I think I missed. should be like this...

1. On config screen make sure you have TouchFlo 3D selected(depending on version you may not have this tab)
2. Goto Init tab, press Init and wait for it to bring up listing of programs
3. Highlight "Replace Poutlook"
4. Checkmark "Patch Enabled"
5. In the "New Program" file put /Program Files/iContact/iContact.exe
6. In the "Arguments" field put a $
7. Press the Deploy tab
8. Press Deploy Patch.

These are like before. Now here is the trick, after it looks like it is done, the program is still actually running in the background, so do NOT restart. Go BACK to the ssMaPa program and you should see a dialog about something being digitally signed and it will ask you if you would like to remove it. Select YES. Then go back AGAIN and you should have some sort of OK type dialog. When you see this, then you can restart and it should take.

If you do not say YES to unsigning the digitally signed file, it will not take. Now, I'm not sure if this still comes up if you disable TouchFlo first before doing all this, so you may want to disable TouchFlo before doing the patching. Disabling TF3D may also prevent ssMaPa from dropping to the background and not being able to the the prompt about unsigning the file.

You're welcome.
