Looking for good Mobile browser

I have a Cingular 8525 that I've unlocked. I upgraded it to WM6, but the IE browser is still so woefully inadequate for what I need.

I tried Opera Mobile, and it seemed really nice, except that I keep running out of memory. Are there any other options I can use, or ways I can change how Opera runs?

A few things....first I'll move this to the Software Forum. Second, you might be interested in Skyfire. There is a thread regarding it here in the Software Forum. Lastly, browse through the Software Forum as there are numerous threads and some good discussions on various browsers.

Coz

So sorry, I thought I had put it in the software forum!

I read about Skyfire, but last I had "heard" was that it wasn't out yet.

It's still in beta but you might be interested in this thread that is discussing the latest version.

issue I have with Skyfiire is I can't download anything with it. Anyone else able to? my fav is Operamini 4.1 with UCWEB 6 for PPC following. But then again I'm posting this with Netfront 3.5 concept version. Its able to download from Rapidshare!!! I think PIE is the ONLY other mobile browser than can download from Rapidshare.

I can download to my phone from skyfire with the latest version (not the one that just came out yesterday the one before it) Opera mini is very good as well.

Skyfire is the only browser I have been unable to download from. However downloading from Rapidshare is not possible from OperaMini.

I really like UCWEB... ALOT!!!! I only wish it could download from Rapidshare. Currently however my fav browser is Operamini 4.1 for browsing and Netshare 3.5 for downloading from Rapidshare :D

The Best Browsers

For those experienced wino users what are the best browsers out there and why? is it possible to put Safari on the touch pro? how is that?

BigDiesel07 12-02-2008 01:12 AM

Re: The Best Browsers

I believe Opera 9.5 is the best so far.. It lets me zoom in and view websites like a desktop.. Although Opera Mini and Skyfire are great too!

Safari I believe will not work on the Touch Pro since it is currently only able to work on a Mac OS...

Open pie and go to http://get.skyfire.com

My Opera crashes daily. I think it is flashlite 3.1 I cant wait until the release flash 9 or whatever it is they are working on. 3.1 is buggy.

skyfire is the most complete browser for me, the only thing keeping me from deleting opera is that the downloads on skyfire fail all the time so i cant trust that browser to download my content unlike opera

I agree, I use Opera mostly. Skyfire has always been crap with downloads. It doesn't crash near as much as my opera though.

Re: The Best Browsers

Opera Mini.

Unless I'm totally missing something, I don't see how Opera Mobile is even in the conversation.

I just ran a quick test over a wifi connection, it took 3 seconds to load ppcgeeks.com on Opera Mini and 15 seconds to fully load on Opera Mobile.

Opera Mobile is just very slow to me. Am I totally wrong on the times or are you Opera Mobile users just accepting that that's how long things take?

On pages with lots of graphics, the difference is even greater.

Opera Mini renders pages for me very well. Tabs and flash aren't going to work, I can always open something else for times where that's needed, but 90% of the time, I'm checking some info out or reading a forum, etc.

You can kind of make Opera Mini the default, but using this here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=384271

Also, for those of you voting "Opera", you need to specify Mini or Mobile.

pdx77 12-02-2008 09:39 AM

Keep in mind that both Opera Mini and Skyfire uses server side rendering so it is always going to be faster then Opera Mobile which does not.
A more fair comparision would to compare Opera Mobile with Netfront or PIE

lexluthor 12-02-2008 09:55 AM

Re: The Best Browsers

Why is it not a "fair" comparison?

If Mini and Skyfire renders pages properly, who cares what they do to make it faster?

That is true... The fault against Mini is that it limits how much text you can input into a box... I believe it's 256 or something... Not fun if you are trying to post a reply on this site... You are right though... Mini is a great web browser...

Interesting. I've never run into that issue (I probably haven't tried replying here, though I'm replying on my desktop now and the url isn't anywhere close to 256 chars), though I could see that being a minor problem if you frequently use a site where the URLs are set up that way.

Sorry sir, lol, I can input 5524 characters with mini 4.1

BigDiesel07 12-02-2008 11:19 AM

Re: The Best Browsers

lol.. I guess I had a crap Opera Mini build.. lol.. When ever I tried to input text in the 'Quick Reply' box, it let me only input 256 or something close to it.. I also had issues with trying to download files.. I always had to open it to IEM and download it from there... Oh well.. What I prefer in Opera Mobile over Opera Mini is the Tab features... I agree Mini is way faster, but Mobile will never be that fast until it is server-side rendered..
