Dashwire Vs MS Myphone

Any opinions yet?

I am using both and so far I like the interface of Dashwire Web more, but prefer the phone side application of MyPhone. The startup with Dashwire is only a momentary inconvenience.... but it always seems I want to use the phone that the exact moment Dashwire is starting up!

I like the fact the MyPhone backs up documents, but I wish there was more user control into what documents and types are actually backed up.

I'm also using both right now, and I'm liking the fact that MyPhone backups more filetypes than Dashwire, including documents.

Myphone just needs more control selections & Dashwire needs to restore text to the handset and a few more features that I can't think of atm. :(

I prefer dashwire for its skype dashboard/text from pc abilities.

I would bet that in the coming weeks, MyPhone will get some updates that address these issues.

Like Spork, I prefer Dashwire for it's web interface, though the sync process can take a while

Re: Dashwire Vs MS Myphone

I was running both as well and the document backup was a huge plus for me tho most ppl are right i like the interface of Dashwire better. Yet Dashwire was always a bit slow and it got kinda buggy on my phone...I was always restarting it because of freeze ups. But as far as free ones go I like myphone a little better.

Myphone looks pretty cool. I like the idea of calendar backup and editing- something Dashwire didn't have when I tried it out.

I'm on the waiting list now. How long did you guys have to wait?

A week and a half. They have a twitter via MSMyPhone, and they give away codes every day.

Re: Dashwire Vs MS Myphone

I'm using dashwire and google sync for calendar. I tried the myphone and it was taking hours to backup my text messages and it would never finish before i had to do a soft reset and my calendar events got moved a couple days before on most things. I don't really need to have text messages back on phone but if i needed to it is easier with spb backup.

Right now for me the best combination has been dashwire for everything and googlesync for my calendar. Also dashwire keeps the correct size for the TF3D contact tab.

It took quite a while for MyPhone to upload my text messages too (i had 2500 of them and it took a few hours) but i'll never let it get that high again before i upload lol.

I used to be a big fan of dashwire, but my txt msg limit was reached with them (10,000) so i stopped using it.

Woah.......are you required to keep them for 4 years or something?

Start archiving and purging!

nah I just thought it'd be a cool idea to try and keep all of my texts somehow since I can't keep them on my phone and I don't know of any software that will extract my messages from my phone to store on my computer. Guess now it's time to see what Microsoft's limit is :-p

I'll get you an "txt backup app" to do that.

10,000 saved txt messages is insane...:???:

I'll post it here in a little bit...

Here we go.

Just move the backup file it makes, over to your PC.

I use them both as well. I like dashwire alot, but it kept duplicating my contacts all the time. Soemtime I had 15 of the same contacts.
They just did some small changes to msmyphone. Its still very selective, they need to change that crap that no files from the card are backed up. Thats stupid. they give you 200 megs--let me use it how I want.

I'm thinking it will get better.

Anyone have a better mobile upload browser than the default mobile wondows one? I was trying to upload some photos to my msn profile from my phone but the browser is totally retarted. I have rescoe but cant seem to get it to kick in as the default. ..?

I've used dashwire in the past. Great app and don't really care to change. However, I just saw this article on fuzemobility.com, and apparently you can back up your Music, too. I really have no idea how this would work as I have 6.5gb worth on mine, but it seems like a cool feature.

I've been playing around with vufone.com, allows documents and music uploading, and total backup/restore but havnt tested it all as of yet. PPC app seems more stable than dashwire was last time i tried it, allows to select custom pic, music, doc folders... worth looking into if you are comparing the other ones. Free accounts for now... some sort of early bird deal.

Yeah the 200MB account makes it useless...

Not really. I figure they created this so people could back up there contacts, calendar, texts messages and such. Doing this you will not use the 200mb. Why do you need to back up music you have on your sd card???? Isn't the music already on your computer. Microsoft just threw those other features in there for a LOOK WHAT I CAN DO. 200mb is more than enough for contacts, email, text messages, and a few documents

X 2. The only other thing I would want is more control over which documents I back up. I want to add notes .

I've tried MyPhone and Dashwire and I really prefer Dashwire. MyPhone wouldn't back up my contacts because I use Exchange (via GoogleSync) for my Calender. I do NOT sync my contacts with Google, just my calender, but it still wouldn't let me.

When I said "useless" I meant that the offer to specifically back up MUSIC is listed & without having control of "what" with a 200MB limit. There is no point in having it.

Why live mail is forgotten?
It is really the best thing for sync'ing hotmail/live mail account AND contacts (both push-notification!). And I use googlesync for calendar.

I would MUCH prefer to BU stuff like this to my Laptop & an external drive.

I am not comfortable storing private info on a public server especially when it's so easy to back it up yourself & KNOW it will stay private.......

There is no 10,000 SMS limit in Dashwire. I have nearly 30,000 messages.

I've never had a duplicate contact with Dashwire.

On the other hand, I had MANY problems with MyPhone creating multiple duplicates of all my texts. When I tried using the "find duplicates" it would flag non-duplicates and I had to manually go through and delete them. The web interface SUCKS for this as well.

i like both, i wonder if i can rin both at the same time? dual back ups? it does seem that dashwire runs all the time while my phone only runs when we run it.

I switched to MyPhone because Dashwire kept screwing up my contacts..it started with losing the picture associated with the contact, and progressed to losing all info on the contact except for the name. And sometimes even that.

i'm having some problems with myPhone. Basically it gets stuck when trying to download any contacts to my phone. Uploading new contacts from the phone works fine though. So I'm not sure what to do.

Any one else having this problem?

i had similar problems with dashwire.
i tested restoring contacts with dashwire after my last 3-4 flashes. i thought it worked ok at first. then i noticed some of the conacts didn't have the phone numbers anymore, just the name. i restored with a pim backup from a month ago and i noticed the ones that dashwire had problems with were ones where the contact number was saved as a pager number (all of my phone numbers got changed to pager numbers when the sprint store moved my contacts from my old samsung to my new tp). i guess i could make sure all the numbers are moved from the pager line to the mobile line in the contact info and then try again with dashwire, but now i don't trust it. i really liked dw other than that. might try using dw for my pics and something else for the contacts, calander, ect.

Unfortunately, I don't think that's the issue. None of my contacts have a number listed for a pager.

Edit: Finally hit 500 :P

I was hav ing that problem, then after A LOT of searching, I found that it could be related to Mobile Shell and the way the facebook photos were integrated. I went in to MyPhone and edited my contact photos back and they downloaded correctly with no hanging.

Mobile Shell put out a beta with a bug fix for that and, well ... we'll see next time I flash my phone. *fingers crossed*
