Caller ID Changer

Does anyone know of anything that can be used to change the number that shows up for your phone on Caller ID? Basically, I'm looking for a way to change what my number shows up as being temporarily. I don't want a permanent change, just something that I can run when needed to give off fake CallerID info for a call.

I remember something a while back that you called and it asked for the number you want to call and the number you want them to think you're calling from, then it connected the call.

Anyone know of anything similar?

If you find anything, it probably won't be legal for long. Read here.

Quote:

On June 27, 2007, the United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation approved and submitted to the Senate calendar S.704, a bill that would make it a crime to spoof caller ID. Dubbed the "Truth in Caller ID Act of 2007", the bill would outlaw causing "any caller identification service to transmit misleading or inaccurate caller identification information" via "any telecommunications service or IP-enabled voice service". Law enforcement is exempted from the rule. A similar bill, HR251, was recently introduced and p***** in the House of Representatives, making it a real possibility of becoming law. It had been referred to the same Senate committee that approved S.704. [1] [2] The bill never became law due to the full Senate never voting on it; it was added to the Senate Legislative Calendar under General Orders, but no vote was taken, and at the end of the 110th Congress the bill expired (all pending legislation not voted into law at the end of the House term, aka end of a session of Congress, is dead).[3] The bill was reintroduced in the Senate on January 7, 2009 by Senator Bill Nelson (FL) and 3 co-sponsors as S.30, the Truth in Caller ID Act of 2009, and referred to the same committee.[4]

This might not help, but you could dial *67 before the number you're trying to call to block your number.

If your with Sprint you can call a tech support and have them change your caller ID name in your account. I had Mine changed to "Capt. Cannabis".
I tried to get the number changed but they reminded me that was illegal.

Ya both my lines have the caller ID changed just remember that your dealing with sprint and it might take two calls. I didn't have any problems with the Rep I got. A friend of mine called however to take care of his lines and the first person he got said they couldn't do that so he had to call back get a different Rep and then he had no problems. Here is a old post I made on the subject. Outgoing caller ID

I have learnedthat if you call your voicemail and make an outgoing call through that... your caller ID will show to others as unknown. Kind of like *67 I guess.

There a service called SpoofCall. You sign up(and deposit money) then you can call from any phone House or Cell and enter the number you want to show up.

Re: Phone # changer?

Spoofcall is about that only option you have..

There is nothing from the phone end that you could do to change the number displayed as the one your calling from one.

Not quite what the OP had in mind, but some phones are coming out that allow two numbers to be used on it! Not sure where/when it will be released, but Acer has this one:

DX900: This phone has dual SIM slots, allowing for two separate phone numbers. It also has 3G a 3 megapixel camera, accelerometer, and a 480 x 640 VGA display.

I had Sprint shut my voice mail off. My phone rings for a while then the operator comes on and says the person you are trying to reach is unavailable

Yeah, I finally got around to it over the weekend. I'm not able to change it to anything too exciting b/c I use my phone for work, but I did have them change it to my middle name and last name since I don't go by my first name. Thanks for the info!
