Re: WM 6.5 Kitchen QVGA and VGA Developer Edition

here's my issue since flashing build 2300+. The screen will go black when I tap on it; to reboot I then either have to hit the power button or use the stylus. Once I get the black screen, it won't come back on without a soft reset or being repowered up. The problem is not consistent but it is pretty frequent. Anyone else having something like this?

DT

I haven't had any issues with it since I loaded it last night, but then again, I don't have the same device. Using a GWES.exe from a different build can definitely add some instability, especially considering that GWES.exe is a critical windows mobile component.

More on background GWES.exe. It is responsible for drawing all the controls on the device like scrollbars, buttons, and checkboxes. It also handles passing window messages back and forth between applications and manages the WndProcs (functions you write to receive all input directed at your window) of all of the programs on the device that are displaying UI. This is probably why the issue is "fixed". But it ultimately makes me wonder if the WinMo developers intentionally made some changes here that caused this and these issues will continue. If that is the case, at some point, swapping gwes.exe may no longer work.

Anyhow, you might want to try finding newer drivers for your device? I hope this isn't a problem for all QVGA users, but I guess we will see.

Strange! :drunken:

Anyways, can you please provide me untouched 23001 xip ( MSXIPKernel )?

It can be found on da_g's kitchen but I cannot download the whole kitchen for just a xip ( MSXIPKernel ).

Best Regards

This is really strange that you guys are getting so many issues here. My ROM is running great now with compime.dll replaced with one taken from 21780. Anyways, There are two changes i noticed in this build after using it for 1 whole day :

1. There are two new options to create Message/Contact groups in the Choose Contact Type dialog box which appears when we try to add a new contact.

2. The GWES.exe, although eats memory still, but it eats less and it returns most of it back when phone is in hibernated mode for more than 30 mins. I monitored today, GWES goes upto 7-9 MB (as opposed to 12-14 MB before) but after 30+ mins of hibernation, it returns to 5 MB :) I think we have been heard by Microsoft. This is a right step in right direction and i think when it comes out, 6.5 will definately have hope for all devices out there :)

Last time that happened to me was because of a XIP issue. I had almost the identical thing happen to me on my Titan back when I was first trying to get 6.5 running on it on my own. I don't think I got it to work right until dan-htc-touch posted a Titan XIP along with some PPCK files if I remember correctly.

Re: WM 6.5 Kitchen QVGA and VGA Developer Edition

Well i have a full working 23003 sys with the AndrewSh's files on my elfin qvga. No issues, just for the battery icon: I delete the Large Tittle Bar Oem package, and all the icons work well instead of the battery one, it looks good (% style) but doesn't open the Energy screen. It's like the button is missed because if you go to the extreme of the area, opens the task manager. I used the reg edit from dsi69 to move the battery icon jet, but appear not to work with.
Some help, please?

Re: WM 6.5 Kitchen QVGA and VGA Developer Edition

Hey guys, i have noticed one thing, in WM 6.5 there are big icons for standard apps like contacts, windows live, calender etc in form of png files which makes the display of icons in start menu nice. But i have many older applications and control panel items that show weird resized versions of their small icons as these were created with older menu in mind.

I tried to find but i failed in understanding how the png's and those files for which they show up in the start menu are related/linked coz i want to make icons for the this older stuff and make my ROM look a little better.

Can anybody throw some light on this issue?
