I use Live Search all the time and love it. I took the upgrade yesterday and it was terrible.

My one complaint about the stock version was that it didn't save your history like in the address bar of a web browser. The upgraded one does. However it is horrendous.

After every letter you input it updates the possible dropdown list- then you have to click in the search field again to continue. After every letter you have to wait and then click in the field again, it's ridiculous. Then when it finally pulled the thing I was looking for, it opened opera and showed me the live search website.

DON'T TAKE THE UPGRADE, IT IS EVIL!!

If you have already taken the install and hate it as much as I do. Then you can reinstall the stock version with File Explorer from here: My Device\Internal Storage\LiveSearchWM6

agree i think the new version isnt very good. it seems much slower loading maps too. the birdseye view is much less useful than Google's street view, more of a 3d satellite view which looks cool but thats about it in terms of functionality. The whole point of a street view is to see the buildings and location in 3d from your viewpoint to match it to what you physically see which birdseye cant do like street view.

personally ill take google maps any day over livesearch anyways in general, never been a big livesearch fan. i google is much faster to load and only lack the turn by turn direction portion (but if you have a good gps program thats not an issue). i dont think the weather or that other junk in the menu is worth very much to the average user. Google is still the best map program IMO.

very very slow.. Fortunately, It didn't uninstall the original version I had, I actually have both installed and can easily removed the newer version

I'll have to check out google maps. I wasn't very impressed with it back in the Mogul days, but haven't given it a look in a while... Live search has done everything I needed.

Umm, it's called Autosuggest and it's an option that can be turned off...


For the record, I think the upgrade is fine, works great on my phone and doesn't seem to be any faster or slower then the previous.

I used it today for the first time in a while and took the upgrade. I had to tell it what port my GPS was on but didn't notice much else bad about it.

I have not turned autosuggest off and I have not had to click on any field after any input. I have no idea what you are talking about to be honest. I had the drop down while I was looking something up but it in no way caused me any problems and it certainly didn't slow anything down for me either. Yes I did see that if you clicked on a suggestion it would open opera which I found useless but that's about it. You are not required to click on any of the suggestions btw. You can click on the search button instead to search as always.

I'm not experiencing the auto search problems of the OP but when using the birds eye view and track me using gps, the little arrow that represents me is way off. But if I switch back to the basic map view its all good.

If you look in the sub-menu there will be a little globe or a file cabinet by the suggestion. If you click on one of the suggestions with a globe. It will take you to your browser. The file cabinet gives you the normal search answers.

Why cant I upgrade, on my 6800 it just installs the new version, and leaves the old version on my phone... and the old version doesnt have an uninstall?? and clue how to get the old version off of my phone..??

Is live search visible from "Remove Programs" in settings? It is on the TP, if so remove it from there then from IE browse to wls.live.com and that SHOULD be the latest version available for your device.

I'll reinstall and see if it was just a fluke thing on my end...

i love windows live search. i just updated, theres nothing wrong with it.

my only wish was to be able to have live search left on in the background without quitting. i dont know if its my crap q9c or the software itself, but well see.

I unintalled because birds eye view was kinda silly, the autocomplete feature doesnt work well with the onscreen keyboard, but mostly because there appears to be a bug in the city search. If you click on change location and type in a city, state it doesnt find the city. example: lets say your location is set to los angeles, ca. If you hit change location, and type reseda, ca in the search box, it will search for "reseda" near los angeles. It appears to have it signals crossed and instaed of looking up a city, its searching for business names in your current location. Try it out....... the older version works like its supposed to.

Well, when you click change location, you are given choices, current GPS, Recent, Point on map, Contacts and List of cities. I don't believe the search box is/was intended for the purpose you are trying to use it for. Your city isn't listed in the list of cities so I would suggest you click "Current GPS".

Well, if it was a fluke, I was able to repeat it. It is still giving me grief with autosuggest and having to reselect the search box after each letter. I have turned it off and I can input a whole word now...

I have the same problem, but if I select a contact for a destination, it doesn't locate the destinatino correctly, but instead does a search for that address near me. How would I enter a destination address if I cannot put it into the search bar?

In all other versions of livesearch the search box on the change location screen was to "search" for cites or direct addresses. The way I found it didn't work was because I was at home(canoga park, ca.) and I wanted to search for somewhere to eat near a city I was driving to(reseda, ca.). I couldnt remember the zipcode of Reseda and put in the address, city, and state. It said not found. Definitely a bug, the previous version worked perfectly. I reinstalled and all is good.

actually i think youre right, it is a bug. in the 'change location' window, the search box does the same thing as the main frontend search. its not supposed to. as you said, the change location search should allow you to enter direct addresses and it will find the best matches- which it doesnt.

im afraid i have to take back my remarks and reinstall the earlier version as well, this update is not right.

edit- phew, i still had the old cab. everything works great again.

Is the "new" version an official gold (non-beta) version? I don't believe MS is advertising it yet...

I would assume it is official as the program prompts you to take the update when you open it. I can't imagine MS would be distributing a beta in that manner...

Yea, this is DEFINITELY messed up. I just realized I had the exact same problem & had to reinstall the earlier version which works just fine.....

I tested the above issues, and version 4.0.12158.1 is working flawlessly on my Sprint Mogul. I updated it 2 days ago.

Fair enough, I never used the search in that manner. I always click current GPS so the software knows where I am. I can also select a point on the map close to a location and search for BBQ restaurants and that will bring up stuff around the point on the map...

I did Barbecue Restaurants, Layton, UT and that worked well for finding everything around me. However I did the same but replaced Layton with Reseda and it didn't find anything. So I tried again but replaced Reseda with Orange County and again it worked. Maybe Reseda just isn't in the database of the new version?

I had the same problem looking in the area where my sons College is.

LS found all the restaurants in the area last year with no problem, the new version finds no results now.........

So youre saying you can go to change location, and type in a direct address, and it will find it? I just redownloaded the same version you have to test a third time, and did NOT work for me. Try this address:

16735 saticoy st., van nuys, ca. 91306

with version 4.0.12158.1 its says not found
with version 3.5.8198.0 its says "located"

I just did the update as well...

1. It found my bank and took me there and back, got pennies now I can stay open...
2. I too turned off the auto complete feature.
3. I really like the new birds eye view, but it's a little inaccurate when using trackme.

In the SurvivorMan test, LiveSearch helped me keep my business open!

Good to go in my book...

What I am seeing here is that the function is working but it doesn't seem to be working for all cities. Something to try for those of you that are not getting it to work for you. Search the "List of Cities" find one that is listed and in the search box type "Parks, (name of city), (state)" then search and see what your result is. After that, do the same thing but find another city that is NOT listed. Obviously we know that YOUR city is not working and it's probably not listed so choose another city/state that you have not yet tried and that is not listed. See what your result is.

My guess is there is something not totally correct with the latest version but the functions are in fact working as designed. The above test will probably show that cities listed will actually work when you search and possibly cities not listed in the "list of cities" may not work.

It is not working for cities that worked just fine in the previous version, so how people can post that it's "working just fine" is a puzzle to me......

Maybe youre right but, it seems somethings definitely wrong with the search engine. Lets say you wanna find BestBuys and youre in Norwalk. Youd go to the first page and search for Best Buy. This would take you to a page that says searching for "best Buy" near "norwalk". Now you decide you wanna find some Best Buys in the city of Reseda. In the old version youd go to change location, and "Find" Reseda, then go to the first page and search in your new location. With the new version, going to the change location page will end up "Searching" for "reseda" near "norwalk". Its searching an item, instead of finding a location. So instead for finding a city, itll search for businesses with the word "reseda" in it. Its like the front seach page and change location page are both doing the samething. Doesnt seem right, and is definitley new to this version.

downloaded new version bout a week or two ago, no problems, ACTUALLY track me using gps loads alot faster then my current location or whatever it was called. i like the update, tested scenarios posted, but didnt get the same result..idk. good update

Guess you didn't bother to read my whole post then. It does work...for me and for a few others that have posted. It doesn't for a few others. It's related to certain cities. The ones I searched with worked. It's really simple if you stopped and thought about it.....

I read the whole post, it just doesn't make any sense (or the update plain flat out sucks if that's what they meant it to do)

Either it's not working for certain cities which is a defect in the program, or the cities where eliminated on purpose. Either way, people need to be warned that the upgrade is actually a downgrade.

Ok, downloaded and checked a forth time and it appears you are correct. If the cities are in the included list of cities, it will find the city and change your location accordingly. Still seems strange it could find ALL cities in previous versions.

This version has the same problems as 2 versions ago. Google maps finds things much easier, but I like how Livesearch switches to the next direction automatically when you have GPS enabled. Google maps doesnt last time I checked.
