Re: Omg Bold Omg

Java is required. Think of it as operamini 4.2. this thing is super fast. Might even be faster than operamini4.2, also.. I went to youtube ans it loaded under 3 seconds. I clicked on a video and it does not play the video but it transcodeds it. Then mediaplayer plays the video for you. The video quality is crap thou. But for browsing the web.. this thing is on fire!

Re: Bolt- The (next) new mobile web browser

I must be doing something wrong. I originally got bolt back on january 16th or around then, and it worked pretty well on my mogul. A couple days later, i upgraded to the touch pro and kinda forgot about bolt. Anyhow, i re-downloaded it today, and it's so tiny. But yet opera mini looks fine, so im thinkin my java version is alright. Maybe? Can anybody help me out with that? Thanks,
dschoenike

Re: Bolt- The (next) new mobile web browser

I am using a Touch Pro. Already had Java installed. Downloaded and installed this new Bolt browser.. The text size is extremely small, just like it is when using opera mini on Touch Pro. Doesn't seem like a good browser for VGA then...

It's quite fast, i'll give them that. I just wish they had the zooming feature like Opera Mini / Mobile has.

Thank you for responding. I tried that, but even with extra large on, its still very tiny. Weird cause opera mini with the same java is plenty big on the 2nd from largest setting. Oh well, its a beta so maybe they'll fix it up for us.

Re: Bolt- The (next) new mobile web browser

Holy **** this thing is fast.

I mean seriously, they must be rendering most of the stuff on their servers (a la Opera 9.7) and then uploading the page to us as an image file or something.

For example, the time it takes to FULLY load a couple of the websites is as follows:

Nytimes.com:
Iris Browser (1.1.6) = 1 min 20 secs
Opera Mobile (9.5) = 1 min 13 secs
Bolt = 9 secs

Just for kicks: Desktop (Opera 10.00 1) = 2 secs

9 seconds!

Engadget.com:
Iris Browser (1.1.6) = 1 min 45 secs
Opera Mobile (9.5) = 1 min 30 secs
Bolt = 9 secs

Just for kicks: Desktop (Opera 10.00 1) = 2 secs

9 seconds, again.

Seriously, this thing is almost as fast as my laptop/desktop

Plus, scrolling throughout a page/site is silky smooth.
No choppiness whatsoever, and also no more checkerboard backgrounds.

They need to tweak the UI to make it more finger-friendly, and allow you to run flash-based videos directly within the browser instead of saving it then playing it with your media player, but aside from that, this is my new browser of choice.

Amazingly fast and renders impeccably well.
