Turn My inactive Mogul into a GPS?

I know I'm probably reaching here. But a fellow co-worker who was probably BS'ing me said that he found the firmware / software / drivers to put Tom Tom GPS software, straight from one of the units, onto his PPC6700 ... if this is true (which I honestly don't think it is) I'm betting it can be done with the mogul. It seems highly unlikely that this is true, and will gladly take verbal abuse (as long as its funny).

I know that when you hook most GPS's up to a computer via USB you can access all the system files like its one big flash drive, but also know you need to have drivers for the right hardware if you wanted to put that software on another device.

Just curious to see if anyone has converted their old PPC's into GPS's, or if it is even possible.

EDIT: FYI, I did try searching for this so if it is a duplicate post, shame on me.

Re: Turn My inactive Mogul into a GPS?

Yes it is definitely possible to put TomTom on your PPC. However, it is *not* exactly the same as it is on a stand-alone device. You can only officially purchase Version 6. Version 7 is available for illegitimate download. Version 8 has not yet, and may never be, ported to WiMo.

Version 6 can be purchased here.

Re: Turn My inactive Mogul into a GPS?

....Just for clarity, and I guess what my real question is....this will work on the device even though it is NOT activated on sprint, just my old mogul I have laying around?

Re: Turn My inactive Mogul into a GPS?

Yes. As long as it has a GPS ROM on it, the GPS will work. It won't be as quick to get a lock, but it will work well once it has a fix.

Re: Turn My inactive Mogul into a GPS?

You want TomTom Navigator 6 or 7 (ttn 6, ttn7)....

They both work on a Mogul.

I'm sure as long as you recieve a Cell signal you will be able to lock onto GPS, otherwise you wont.

I brought my Mogul with me to Germany (part of GSM land, anti CDMA), my mogul would never lock onto GPS.

Re: Turn My inactive Mogul into a GPS?

Sorry to dispute that, but you don't need a cell signal to use your GPS enabled mogul as a standalone GPS. That's what "Standalone" means, otherwise it would be AGPS enabled (Meaning WiFi and cell tower ASSISTED) like Navizon. You need Satellite signal, not cell phone tower signal. You probably couldn't get a lock because you didn't have the maps for the area loaded?

If you have an issue with anything physical on an HTC and can't find an answer through "Search", give me a yell.

Custom painted Mogul/Titan w/ trimmed down housing, running WM 6.1, and android, standalone GPS w/ TomTom maps, and the cube.
*Still awaiting a good overclocker for the ****ed dual processor*

False. I had both Europe and US Maps loaded. I couldnt even get a GPS hit while I was using google maps over wifi.

The brand of GPS processor in the mogul is GPSone which is a aGPS chip.

Another thing I found annoying about the Mogul GPS is that is tied to the radio. If you turned the radio off then GPS doesnt work.

That's strange, because I can use my GPS with tomtom in airplane mode...

Yes, and like other aGPS chips it can operate in assisted (satellite+cell tower) or standalone (satellite-only) modes. I frequently used my mogul's GPS with the phone radio off. For all the facts about GPSone and AGPS in general check out my post in an other thread: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...6&postcount=11
