pRSSreader

Ok so now that I added rss feeds I figure I would post a rss reader for the pocket pc. Its called pRSSreader, and I think its the best free rss reader I have tried. Anyway if you would like to check it out you can check out the developers site or download the attached and install to ur ppc. For more information on our feeds see this thread.

Notes: After a soft reset you will not see the windows splash screen, don't panic it will load. And for some reason when trying to update the channels via wifi you get a could not connect error, but works fine on 1x.

Wideawake 08-11-2006 04:13 AM

just tried it myself, and got the same thing, its all good tho..... I wonder why its doing that, and this is the best free one I have found, so I guess I will deal with it......because the rss feeds are cool. Cant you tell I just started using, learning what a rss feed was. :laughing6:

ajk511 08-11-2006 04:17 AM

haha. did u try that hubdog thing i posted... i thought that was cool but i deleted it cuz i dont use rss. but this one i will use for sure. damn hate not having a comma or quetion mark!!!

Wideawake 08-11-2006 04:20 AM

yea I tested it out, but didn't try the rss feed reader. it was cool but I like this myself as a dedicated feed reader, gonna have to get use to the white screen at start tho.... :laughing6:

ajk511 08-11-2006 04:22 AM

lol hey how do i delete the post in the rss feed reader.....

Wideawake 08-11-2006 04:25 AM

you can't delete it, it cache the info. So to remove it after u mark it read, u go to file/hide read items. also if u have a minisd I would move the cache to it, by going tools/options/cache.

ajk511 08-11-2006 04:26 AM

edit: nvm.. saw the option to clear cache before update

Wideawake 08-11-2006 02:58 PM

Sonin66 08-11-2006 03:06 PM

ajk511 08-11-2006 06:56 PM

are there any rss programs that would let us post a reply from the program instead of clicking the link and openong up pie? and for some reason thiss rss app won't automatically update every 15 min like I have the settings checked for.

Wideawake 08-11-2006 07:00 PM

I have noticed this issue also, I will look into it in alittle bit or so...and may try and find a better one.

RSS is a one way ticket! It's only meant to be read--no replies.

I guess in theory there could be a way to "email" a response that get's posted but I'm not sure what would be involved in setting all of that up.

Also, I mentioned this to WideAwake already: I use Illium's NewsBreak RSS reader as I consider it the best option out there. (I have about 25 RSS feeds in it).

It's a pay program though but if you use the PocketGear coupon, you could save yourself a couple of bucks (I actually got mine for $4 on an Illium one-day sale!).

Anyways, it has great 1-handed support, handles graphics very well and has a sweet auto-scheduler.

ajk511 08-12-2006 01:18 AM

should i install newsbreak on the device or is it ok from the storagecard

depends on how you're going to use it: if you want auto-updates, definitely main-mem. if just manually, storage card will be okay.

I think iti's slightly faster in main-mem (just eye-balling it) so I keep it there and even with my 25 feeds I doesn't take up more than maybe 1 or 2 mb of space w/data, so it's fairly frugal with space.

You also have the option of inbetween: install in main mem but have data on the storage card. but I recommend against that for auto-updates.

Here is the trial cab for Malatesta's newsbreak I have tried 2 other rss readers today and I think this is the best option so far.

Wideawake 08-12-2006 02:06 PM

to bad its not free :(

ajk511 08-12-2006 05:13 PM

and that its not getting all the posts. just updated it and it only grabbed 15 posts. missed the first half of the convo about the new freeware site

Wideawake 08-12-2006 05:47 PM

Yea if Im not mistaken that a setting in the feed I set up, I can probably change that....I will have to look into it. So its not pRRSreader just fyi. ;)

ajk511 08-12-2006 05:52 PM

coolcool

ajk511 08-15-2006 01:00 AM

anyone figure out how to clear the cache on newsbreak yet.. i have it storeing to the storage card but it still bugs me that all the old post and stuff r still there.

cyberjack88@hotmail.com 10-16-2006 02:29 PM

I use this one and love it.
It's very simple to use and even downloads images in the feeds.
Hubdog seems intrusive and problematic.

I'd like to see Snarfer on the PPC (right now it's XP only).

drunkdirtbiker 10-28-2006 05:30 PM

I know this is stupid but, what does rss do?

CozBoogie 12-20-2006 03:20 AM

I can't seem to get pRSS reader to update my channels either automatically or manually on my 700wx...any thought?

Thanks,
Coz

EDIT: Problem solved...I obviously had some channels that were not working properly. I've since put in different rss channels and the updater works just fine.
