Re: Browser 6.1 beta SWEET

Now that you mention it, i can't get digg.com to load, it just keeps trying to connect. But personally speaking, i'm o.k with that because i've never gone to digg.com. I guess the point of it not working could be a concern though. dschoenike

Re: Browser 6.1 beta SWEET

UCWeb does look like it has a lot of potential. I actually posted about this browser and a few others here:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=17859&page=5
It is actually a VERY useful thread to read through.

Opera Mini's Optimization Servers: 3.56mb/s

UCWeb's Optimization Servers: 4.39mb/s

So yes, UCWeb is quite a bit faster than opera mini, I seem to like it a lot however maybe I need to change some setting around because it seems to format webpages exactly like PIE...which is not acceptable in my opinion.

Re: Browser 6.1 beta SWEET

I agree. Skyfire is terrific in its current iteration, and this new web browser is definately comparable and s/what better than operamini. Thanks a stack. green

Re: Browser 6.1 beta SWEET

What settings/ROMs are you all running to get this thing to run comparable or better than Opera Mini?

I've tried JD's latest Mogul ROM and Sprint's stock 6.1 ROM and both result in the same - pages on zoom mode look like trash. Engadget doesn't even bother loading images and forget about reading articles... what good is a browser that doesn't have a full zoom mode? Am I missing some magic setting that fixes all of this? I'd rather be stuck with the slowness of PIE than the "where the hell did it go" placement of things in this browser...

Its nowhere *NEAR* Opera Mini for me, which makes me wonder what sites people are visiting, what sites they are using, what ROMs, etc., because I was appalled and felt offended for Opera Mini for even being compared on the same level in any form. Hell, I can't even get on Myspace with this browser.

Someone, please, give me some insight. I had a coworker try this browser on my phone and he had the same complaints. I don't think its my phone - its a brand new Mogul - and its run two completely different ROMs. I'll flash no2chem's pre3-3 and report back what I find but I imagine it will be much the same.

In the end, just seems like a browser that's faster than Mini, slower than Skyfire, that is only faster than Mini because it doesn't render properly, and is slower than Skyfire because Skyfire's servers are in the US.

Re: Browser 6.1 beta SWEET

just went to the engadget site with the touch with no problems. i do have issues in general with the mogul in that the bottom menus do not appear on the screen so i have no control of the appllication. i use skyfire as my primart browser but also find myself using this application quite often. for me opera is the odd man out on the mogul primarily due to memory use.

Greetings. I admit ucweb isn't as pretty or polished as opera mini, but for "my" mobile browsing needs, ucweb is better. I like the fact copy and paste is enabled, i can have multiple windows open, and i'm able to upload attachments within forums. I pretty much stick to the same websites while on my mogul, and every one i go to with opera mini, ucweb works just as well. Like alot of things, it may just come down to personal preference. And for me, i can give up some eye candy ( opera mini) for the functions ucweb offers. Opera mini's feelings shouldn't be hurt, 'cause i'll always have room for it on my storage card Oh yeah, i'm running sprints official 3.35 rom. dschoenike

Re: Browser 6.1 beta SWEET

i'm liking this with the diamond so far. it's a little annoying because entering in password onto facebook won't let me, but it's much quicker than opera.

Re: Browser 6.1 beta SWEET

I use the java version directly installed on my touch ad it works great. I use the non-java version on my mogul storage card with the same results. I tried installing the java versio on the mogul storage card but I had some issues. As one user said, it depends how you use it but I find myself using this more than anything except skyfire. As has been mentioned, there are two versions, java and non, with the non-java version having a few more features.
