UCWeb 6.1 beta
1 Attachment(s)
Greetings. Has anyone else tried the java version of UCWeb 6.1 beta? I've been using it all day, it's pretty nice. It's alot like opera mini, but not as polished. There's lots of options to customize it, and from what i've seen, i think it's a little faster than opera mini. I included the .jar file which will open and install with java, i'm using esmertec jbed. It worked for me, so if anyone does try it, let me know what you think. I'm liking that you can copy and paste with it, and also open a new tab. Pretty cool. Hope somebody at least tries it. Oh yeah, this is a wm 5/6 touch screen device version. works awesome on my sprint mogul. dschoenike

Re: UCWeb 6.1 beta
I downloaded it and actually like it better than Opera Mini. It seems to work OK on the Touch. On the Mogul, the bottom menus don't seem to appear..

Here you go T. My apologies for posting the wrong version. Well maybe not wrong :) but different than the one i've been talking about. At the very bottom of the link you'll see 2 jar files listed for touch screen devices. Im pretty sure i'm using the first one. Geeze my memory is shot. :( |

Re: UCWeb 6.1 beta
Really, you got that one working? I had tried it Tuesday, and just couldn't get it to connect to the internet. It just kept saying "connecting to server" or something like that. I installed the jbed version and havent tried the other again.

Re: UCWeb 6.1 beta
First of all, I am using the exe-type version (versus java), and I have no problem using the "desktop" view. Simply go to "Menu," "Settings," "Browse Mode," and select "Zoom Mode."
Next, I REALLY like this browser. It may not have as manny bells and whistles as Opera or it's Java-based brother, but it is smokin' fast. Pages load like lighhtning, and startup seems a snap. I've always hated the slow initial startup of Opera Mobile and Skyfire. My one pet peeve is that I cannot set my own start page (unless I am missing something). I must go to a bookmark of my (iGoogle) preferred start page from the UCweb start page. |
