Re: Nice Media Player

Do all the players take up a lot of ram? Or, does coreplayer take less ram than wmp? wmp just slows my device to a hault (Mogul)

Re: Nice Media Player

less ram but big footprint

Agreed. If you can hold your horses awhile, there's one on the horizon that looks really promising. Already past its supposed release date, so it's anybody's guess when it will actually come out, and it'll probably only be in Japan or something like that, at first. A few weeks ago, I read this about the M8 (pronounced "mate" or something such:

>>>>>
The interface itself will be built on top of Microsoft's latest windows embedded operating system, Win CE 6.0 which is targeted to enterprise specific tools such as industrial controllers and consumer electronics. Not to be confused with Microsoft's current Mobile operating system Windows Mobile 6.1 (which places far more restrictions upon it's programming) Win CE 6.0 will actually form the basis for Microsoft's next generation of Mobile operating system Windows Mobile 7 which it is said will be heavily graphics driven and gesture/touch orientated. The use of Windows CE 6.0 is also also another 1st I believe for any phone available (in the west anyway).

The M8 sounds really promising. Full article is still available, here:

Check out MortPlayer. It is free, has alot of skins, runs very smoothly, has an EQ and everything built in, and has a hell of a nice alarm clock with ascending sound so it wakes you slowly. I have used it on my Mogul, Touch and now my Diamond and love it. BTW, I could care less about album covers so you don't see them on my screen shots, but you can see where they would be. And this is just one of many free themes available.

Well go get it, I even gave you a link :) It is actually one skin (MorthVista) that is included... and it has four screens to choose from:

Car
Playlist
Main
Navbar

He does a real good job with the app and skin and it runs very stable! Check it out and I am confident that you will like it...

Re: Nice Media Player

It's not freeware but I was recently turned on to Kinoma.
Slick, FAST interface that has album art, shoutcast, youtube (best I've seen) personal photo album, Orb, Flickr etc.
They have a trial which promptly led to my payment for the full app....try it out!

Kinoma Play

Re: Nice Media Player

I have the paid version of Kinoma also & I agree, it has the best youtube playback period.

Unfortunately, there are enough negatives to the program (stealing ALL the file associations without asking, no way to turn off the scanning on every single start etc etc) that support has stubbornly refused to address that I am seriously considering deleting it from my system.

That's unfortunate. I personally do not mind if Kinoma associates itself with certain files.
The player is the quickest, cleanest all in one media I've seen yet. (BTW, I think resco explorer can resubmit a default app?)
I keep kinoma running so no worries for me on the scanning issue.

To each their own I suppose ;)

Yes, Resco File Explorer does have a feature [almost identical to Windows XP] to 'Open With...' and 'Set as default program for this file type'

I wouldn't mind either if it asked permission first. To take over all the associations without even asking is horrendously bad programming however.

It really annoys me that if I click on a simple jpeg image from the file browser it insists on opening Kinoma & going through all the scanning etc just to view an image.

I already has s2v & s2p installed & those are the apps I installed because I like them & to have them removed as the default programs for music & image viewing without my permissionis really really annoying to me......

....Yes, but.........Resco file explorer to the rescue if need be.
Thanks for the confirmation Sauman.

Thanks, I'll check that out right now (although I shouldn't have to install yet another program to undo the damage done by the invasiveness of the first program).

Agreed. It is a bit frustrating. Hopefully the makers of Kinoma will disable this function in future releases.

jmorton10 09-29-2008 07:09 PM

Re: Nice Media Player

Well, you guys are right. That worked super, I asked here repeatedly if anybody knew of an easy way to restore file associations & nobody ever mentioned this option.

I can't believe it's this easy & nobody brought it up before, thankyou guys very much (this will probably allow me to keep KinomaPlay installed). Now, all I need is a regedit to stop the Kinoma auto-scanning & everything will be perfect............

I honestly don't understand tech supports flat out refusal to allow this (or at the very least let the USER decide what folders to scan/not scan).

They seem to think everyone who buys this program is too stupid or such a noob that it is mandatory for the program to handle it for you (there are no user config options of any kind whatever)

People on this board & on their own tech support board have asked repeatedly for this to be remedied, but they totally ignore the requests.

Install HTC Home Customizer (HHC) Final and you can choose MortPlayer as the player for the Music tab in HTC Home.

Really??

I looked in my version of HTC Home customizer & the only choices are WMP & HTC Audio.

Do I need to reinstall it to have it pick up the mortplayer??

Hmm.. maybe I am not remembering correctly. I stopped using HTC Home and HHC about 6 months ago on my touch. I moved to UL and rlToday, and then to ThrottleLauncher. No I have a Diamond and just use TF3D.

If I lied to you, it was an accident. Sorry :)

+1 For Pocket Player. I just use it for music. I love how it handles album art. It also has a Audioscrobber Plugin for last.fm. Very finger friendly. Oh and you can pick what directories you want it to scan if any (it beats waiting for kinoma) There are tons of plugins I haven't dived into yet.

Another vote for pocket player. I've used every other mp3 player listed here and in my opinion it's by far the best out. It works great for my music, audiobooks, podcasts, and even music streaming.

I've only used the podcast support a couple times. I listen to a ton of podcasts and I'm afraid of using too much Bandwidth. Hopefully pocket player can utilize wifi on the diamond. I wonder if pocket player also handles .cue files, I'm going to try that now.
