Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
This is a very promising piece of software. I just tried it on my Mogul, and although it is a bit on the slow side, I'm sure given time this program will become snappier and more streamlined. Thanks for this great find!

Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
I actually really like the interface behind this better than any other(it actually lets u view conversion tabs night to your buddy list. But it runs so slow on my ppc-6700 its essentially unusable. Its so slow I can't tell if you can finger scroll or if u need to use the scroll bar. If its finger scroll, I could definitely see using this instead of beejive if the speed increases a lot.

Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
using on my touch its actually pretty nice i think i might stick with it for now
|
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
Of course it wears down battery more if you leave it connected, but I love it. Almost reminds me of the AIM on the Sidekick, except pleasing. It's a keeper.

Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
anyone know where I can download this? I tried searching for it but couldn't find it.

Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
Needs some work and screen notifications.

here it is http://beta.aol.com/projects/aimwinm.../mobileaim.cab EDIT: works GREAT on my touch |
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
The only thing that would make this perfect is pop up notifications or even a Today plugin
|
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
So wait a second....if you have it running in the background, and someone IM's you, it won't tell you about it like the standard AIM client that comes with the Touch? If it doesn't do that, what's the point of having it run in the background?

Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
how do you set your own picture its not letting me??

Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
its nice but rather have a problem that has more than just aol in it

AIM for Windows Mobile
Looks like AOL is actually after 10.1 billion years is finally working on a modern free AIM client for Windows Mobile 6.

Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
This is the best Aim so far, if only it wasnt so slowly, then it would be prefect and also a Today pulgin would be nice
|
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile
awesome program....i mean i really like it.
would like it more, and might consider using it instead of slick, but im on a titan, not vogue, so it takes waaay to much memory...were talking 11.1 mb of ram to run. it would pretty much need to be the only thing i have running at the time. maybe a future release would decrease the amount of memory needed. thanks though |
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile
dont get too excited it looks preaty but my diamond keypads wont let me type unless im using full qwerty, and i have big fingers so that is out of the picture.... damn aol
|
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile
This is the first beta release of the AIM client so I'm sure it'll get better as they develop it further.
|
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile
i agree. it might be lacking slight functionality, but it does look sweet. gotta be stickin with jivetalk
|
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile
jivetalk ftw
|
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile
hi guys what's up I have 1 problem with the beta it doesn't vibert when people hit me up which they should fix that and they should make it finger friendly !!!!!!
|
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
Threads merged.
late, Coz |
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
Everyone should still remember that it's a beta, and at least for me not all options are available yet. So stuff mentioned in the thread already could be in the works for the client. Right now the UI is a little sluggish for me on my Treo.
|
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
I've been looking for something like this for a while now. Glad I finally found it.
|
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
Downloaded and Love the Feel and how everything is..just the only issue is that it seems to run a little slow on my phone..and not sure if its the general App its self or because of my Telephono (Phone)..lol..
|
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
jivetalk crashes on my touch. Maybe i need another version? anyone got a cab file that works with the touch?
|
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
I FINALLY got Jivetalk working on my Mogul, just required me to install SQLCE since I flashed to the new DCD ROM. I might be using that a bit more but I still have AIM on there to see what they do. Jivetalk is at 0.9.1.0 so try that maybe?
|
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
Got the email for a new version. Vast improvement from the previous. Not as sluggish, but still a little. Adds an icon to top bar while running and if you receive an IM while not focused the icon changes and you receive a notification like you just received a text message. While running though AIM takes a spot on the left soft button menu. Have to use today plugin to access my regular text messages.
|
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
Beta 2 took up 7 to 8MB at one time! On my mogul!
|
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
It nabbed about 14megs of RAM for me, on my Treo 700wx. Hopefully future betas will show better memory usage. They certainly showed a lot of improvement in functionality in a week. Plus it hasn't killed my Treo yet so no big problem for me.
|
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
looks nice, i love it, thank you.. also if it could just be a little bigger in size of text ect.
would be nice. a little slow as u navigate but its better looking and a better feel the then other 3 party apps (slick, agile ect) |
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
I love this client, I liked the first beta but this second one is much better with its notifications when AIM is not in the foreground. I find the quality very good for beta software, can't wait for the actual release. Does anyone know when it's supposed to be out of beta? I'm running on a Treo 750 and have no problems.
|
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
Uh, I don't like being a nay-sayer, but need I remind everyone that AOL has always been known for sucking up more than its fair share of RAM? For those of you who remember the AOL client and all versions of the AIM client since 6.0 came out, I rest my case.
Still, I have to give them props for making something functional and stylish. :) |
Anyone had issues when it auto-reconnects? Like it having that "reconnecting" message but never reconnecting?
|
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
I'm just glad to see AOL developing something new for Windows Mobile their previous client is Arcadia in comparison. Still, in this day and age of multi-platform chat clients I have buddies spread across several platforms so the only solution I'm wanting to use is a chat application which connects to several all at once... and the best I've found thus far is hands down JiveTalk.
|
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
Anyone else find this to be an absurd memory hog? Every time I've opened it on my Mogul I instantly get an out-of-memory error, which I rarely see on 6.1. It makes it completely useless. If I had the free RAM of a Touch, perhaps it would be usable, but on my Mogul it's worthless.
|
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
Got the 2nd Version and loving it just as much as the frist.. loving the improvments. hope to see this thing take offff..
|
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
good app, but chews up 3 meg of my extended rom... 8^((
|
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
Did they took out the message history with this new beta? Like when you are in a conversation and you close it out, and you click back on the name it still shows the previous message.
|
Re: AIM for Windows Mobile - Beta
I'm not so sure on the message history question. You can either minimize IMs or close them. Minimizing will keep the message history.
I can't seem to copy and/or paste in the client. I hope this is fixed in the next update. |
