PocketSpeedTest - test your internet speed
2 Attachment(s)
Pretty cool app that kartam has created over at xda-dev.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395165 Basically with this app you can test how fast your phone connection is without having to tether it to your pc and then having to load a speedtest website.. Send some feedback to improve this little cool app! To install just extract the zip and just copy pocketspeedtest to device and run, that it. |
Re: PocketSpeedTest - test your internet speed
Thanks for the heads up.
I'm going to check it out. |
Re: PocketSpeedTest - test your internet speed
btw, this app works on XP too if you have the framework installed.

Re: PocketSpeedTest - test your internet speed
Works with Vista also.....
Haven't decided how accurate it is. On my Mogul I am getting 307 kbit/s with 2 bars, and on my laptop wireless I'm getting 2231.7 kbit/s. |
Re: PocketSpeedTest - test your internet speed
Nice little app. I'm getting 201 kbit/s. :(
|
Re: PocketSpeedTest - test your internet speed
Awesome!
Averaged 573kb w/ two bars peaked at 873kb I've been wanting this for some time. Would love it to record peaks, and support copy from the results window. |
Re: PocketSpeedTest - test your internet speed

Re: PocketSpeedTest - test your internet speed
well if all else fails, you can always make a backup, then softreset and try the speed test again. if its better you know its something you did, if not then just load your backup and wait for it to work itself out lol

Re: PocketSpeedTest - test your internet speed
Very nice little find. Thanks for sharing with those of us who are too lazy to check two forums. I also seem to forget to go over to XDA every few days to see what is new :)

And No i wont resize it.. lol.

Re: PocketSpeedTest - test your internet speed
I believe this will give you a true average as opposed to teathering. what mean is the when you are teathered to your pc the speed test is just using your device a a modem but this is a true speed test suing everything on the device to give a real and true account of speed.

Re: PocketSpeedTest - test your internet speed
This is strange. I was getting some pretty low speeds using the pocketspeed app yesterday. (201 kbit/s) I did a hardreset, and my speeds went up (750 kbit/s) Started putting back on some programs, a few spb things, slingbox, and opera mini 4.1. Checked the test again, and i'm back down to 235 kbit/s. Anyone know why an application would bring down my test results? thanks, dschoenike

I have slingbox installed, and about 15 other apps. |

Re: PocketSpeedTest - test your internet speed
I finally figured out what was slowing down my data connection. It was spb gprs monitor. With it installed, i got 200kbit/s, i just uninstalled it, now im getting 800 kbit/s. grrr! I wonder why that app would slow down my data dschoenike
|
Re: PocketSpeedTest - test your internet speed
Dang, I get around 200 or less kbit/s. I have the leaked 6.1 ROM, rev-a enabled shows in data parameters and I have various registry tweaks. Any suggestions? :/

Re: PocketSpeedTest - test your internet speed
cool and quick little app, did several tests and got results that were slower when i was holding the device vs. setting it down and pushing start. Wasn't real scientific about it in regards to recording data but did seem quicker when just placed on the desk.
|
Re: PocketSpeedTest - test your internet speed
If you are running SPB GPRS Monitor, it may be slowing down your speeds:
http://www.spbclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11791 My speeds tripled after uninstalling it. |
Re: PocketSpeedTest - test your internet speed
i love this app i get better results than trying to test thru online speed tests.

I noticed on other forums that people with the same phones on the same network in the same area were getting way faster speeds and then I just started searching for reasons why my Rev. A speeds would be so slow and then I saw the SPB forum listing and it clicked that it was that particular program that was causing the problems. |
